Elden Ring’sShadow of the Erdtree DLC takes us into the land of the Scadutree, where there are monsters, mausoleums, and the Mother of Fingers, of course. Ymir and his Swordhand of Night, Jolan are an interesting duo you’ll encounter in the eastern section of the Scadu Altus Region.
Before you can get to Ymir, you’ll encounter numerous beasts on your journey across this dark new setting. However, you’ll need to be patient, as the fight against Ymir takes some time to get to, and ultimately requires some versatility, depending on what build you’re using.
Where Is Ymir, Mother Of Fingers?
Ymiris anoptional bosslocated on the throne (and occasionally in the graveyard) in theCathedral of Manus Metyrin the eastern part of theScadu Altus region.
Once you locate the Cathedral of Manus Metyr, you’ll be introduced to the quirky Ymir, along with his Swordhand of Night, Jolan.
To access his boss fight, you mustfirst complete Ymir’s questlineby visiting the locations he presents to you on a series of maps.
After you complete the final section anddefeat Metyr, Mother Of Fingers,you’re able to return to the Cathedral for the final encounter with Ymir.
When you approach Ymir’s throne, you mustfirst face and defeat Swordhand of Night, Jolan,before Ymir appears,making this a modified duo fight, where the enemies approach you separately.
What Gear To Use Against Ymir, Mother Of Fingers
Gear choices for Ymir, Mother Of Fingers are very flexible, as this boss isn’t particularly hard to damage – your biggest challenge will bedodging the lethal attacks and staying alive.
However,quick weaponsare preferred for dealing damage before Ymir teleports, as weapons with delayed swings or delayed weapon skills may miss their mark.
Aside from generallypowerful, fast-attacking weaponsand sturdy armor of your choosing, there area few powerful Talismans to considerthat will help you beat Ymir, Mother of Fingers easily.

These Talismans will help you prepare as you approach the battle with Jolan and Ymir.
Ymir gives you theBeloved Stardust Talisman,which is very helpful for ensuring your spells connect with Ymir before the Mother of Fingers can escape your clutches. It’s limited topowerful magic builds, as it won’t help melee weapons in any way.
TheTwo-Headed Turtle Talismanwill help maintain a constant stamina supply as you run and dodge Ymir’s ranged onslaught, keeping your distance throughout the fight until you can strike.
TheSpelldrake Talismanwill help you to survive any stray spells that manage to connect with their target.
If you’re using Beloved Stardust, the Spelldrake Talisman will be a big help in negating the extra damage you’ll receive from using that Talisman.
Now, onto the fight against Ymir.
How To Beat Ymir, Mother Of Fingers
Keep in mind that you must first defeat Jolan before you can face Ymir, so enter the Cathedral of Manus Metyr when you’re ready, andprepare to be charged by Swordhand of Night Jolan.
How To Defeat Swordhand of Night, Jolan
Luckily, Jolan is a bit of a pushover, as she leaves fairly large openings after her combinations.
Jolan is extremely aggressiveand will pursue you relentlessly, so be sure to play defensively by dodging her attacks and exploiting openings.
When you do, her low poise ensures you can stagger Jolan easily, while Magic users will see her health evaporate after ahit from a powerful sorcery.
Once she goes down, Ymir will appear and the fight will begin.
How To Defeat Ymir, Mother Of Fingers
Ymir’s most annoying ability is theshort-range teleportthat will prevent you from stringing together long combos with slower weapons.
There are three major attacks Ymir will employ against you during the fight:
Any time Ymirraises or moves his staff,prepare for an attack.
The shield attack willsummon a set of six fingers around Ymir,shielding him from damage and hurting youif you’re too close when they emerge.
Theprojectilesare difficult to dodge if you’re too close, sorun as far away as possible while dodgingor backstepping away. If you space yourself correctly, the spells won’t have enough range to reach you.
TheFinger Summonswill be similar to the ones you just faced in the Metyr fight, so these shouldn’t pose much issue.
Ignore them if you’re able to defeat Ymir quickly while he summons them, otherwise, you should clear them out before they overwhelm you.
Ymir cannot move while he’s summoninghis freaky little finger creatures, soexploit this massive openingwhen you can, and Ymir will be defeated after a few cycles.
What Rewards Do You Get From Ymir, Mother Of Fingers?
Once Ymir goes down, you’ll receive the following rewards:
From here,head outside into the graveyard areaand inspect the tombstones on the right, where you’ll notice on item on the ground.
This is theCherishing Fingerssorcery, similar to the shield Ymir uses during his fight.
