The Black Wind King ofBlack Myth: Wukongis a deceptively easy boss with a later second phase that will have you wishing you picked up an easier game for new players of the genre. His teleporting shenanigans are one thing, but the following fight will have you wishing it stayed only just.

Your reward for defeating this version of him, however, will make any of the struggles you face when fighting him worth it. However, getting there will require no small amount of skill. Whatever you learn from us here and in your fight, you’ll need it all to face what’s to come, so study closely and practice accordingly.

Wukong receives the Cloud Step spell in Black Myth: Wukong.

Black Wind

Announcing himself with the dialogue tag: “I am the Black Wind!” (or another long line later in the fight), the king will transform himself into a black misted cloud. During this transformation, he is invulnerable to damage. He will charge at the player three times, and after completing this combo, he will appear in the center of the arena with a spiraling wind vortex that explodes.

Use your Immobilize spellto knock him out of this attack. If not available, you mustdodge his charges when the blue sparking flash appearsaround the cloud.

Ground Slam Combo

Pulling his left arm over his body, the king attacks by thrusting his staff into the ground. He uses his staff as an anchor as he lifts both feet off the ground and launches himself at the player. Upon reaching the player, he performs an aerial spin attack followed closely by a ground slam.

Brace yourself when you see him balancing himself with the staff, thendodge forwardjust as he reaches you.Dodge again twice immediatelyafter to prevent both attacks. Attack during the large opening.

Spinning Retreat

With a grunting yell, the king will retreat with a spiraling attack to put distance between him and the player.

Avoid long combosduring opening if unable to stagger.Dodge roll backwardwhen you hear his audio cue.

Thrusting Spin

Dashing forward, he spins once and holds his staff above his head and then thrusts it down onto the ground. After pulling the blade from the ground (if it missed), he spins twice with the blade and finishes with an uppercut.

Dodge left, then right, then left, and finally forwardto follow-up with an attack of your own.

Blades of Wind

Holding his spear up, he lights it with black wind and begins swinging with several undercuts that create projectiles along the ground.

Dodge to the left or right, always dodging toward the direction the wind projectile comes from.

Mist Strike

The Black Wind King will disappear from view and reappear behind the player’s position to chain into a Spinning Staff combo or a Thrusting Spin (typically).

Begin sprinting and turning the camerawhen he disappears to discern his location. When he appears, react as you normally wouldfor the chosen follow-up.

While there are certainly long combos in his movepool that are worthy of concern, your chief worryduring this fightwill be less the combos and more his wind abilities. For example:

For his most dangerous attacks, you’ll chiefly want tolook out for the following:

The latter Ground Slam Combo is only listed for the quick reaction time or prior knowledge typically required to accurately dodge the full combo. With practice, this combo is negligible and comparable to his other combos.

How To Defeat The Black Wind King

The primary difficulty with the Black Wind King will be in learning how to deal with his mist attacks. However, once you learn that his most dangerous attacks can be immediately shut down by your Immobilize spell, things get easier.

Whenever you see the Black Wind King gearing up to use his Black Wind attack, use your Immobilize spell to snap him back to his physical form.

This is incredibly important to learn as you will be using this same mechanic in the next fight.

Thankfully, this is his only gimmick, andhis second phase is counted as a completely separate fightmuch later.

As a result, you need only focus on finding your openings and putting all you’ve learned thusfar to the test.Your best openings will be:

There is little else to be done for this fight, and your transformation will - as usual - just be an added damage bonus without fear of taking any hits to your own healthpool.

As long as you apply what you’ve learned for the Immobilize spell, you’ll handle him in due time andbe rewarded with:

But most importantly, you’ll be given the ability to use the Cloud Step spell, allowing you to return some of the same teleporting tricks of the Black Wind King against his second, following iteration.

If you’re feeling brave, you can find that iteration and your rite of passage into Black Myth: Wukong at the very tip of the mountain.

Before you march forward into the next phase of this fight, we do highly recommend coming to grips with this spell and how to properly use it. Keep in mind that you will stay invisible and undetected for as long as you do not attempt to strike or until your decoy’s health runs out.
