Shigandang Attacks

Shigandang hits hard andhas tons of HP. However, its attacks are slow and easy to dodge, making it much less of a threat compared to some other bosses that you may encounter in Chapter 2, such as theTiger Vanguard, and the Yellow Wind Sage.

How To Avoid

Stomping Charge

Shigandangcharges in your direction, stomping the groundwith its huge hands repeatedly.

This attack can be avoided bydodging to the sides. The charge has a fairly short range but deals a ton of damage if you get caught by it. You can also sprint away from the boss when you see him charging.

Body Slam

The boss jumps into the air, slamming its entire body on the groundas it lands. The landing will also create a shockwave with near-infinite AOE.

If you dodge the initial Slam, you’ll also avoid getting hit by the shockwave. If you’re out of the slam’s range, then you’ll have towatch the shockwave and dodge itat the precise time. Avoiding this attack leaves the boss open for you to deal some damage.

Shoulder Slam

If you’re circling around this boss, it will stand up andfall on its shoulder. The Shoulder Slam will also sprout a few spikes on the ground, which will travel to a little distance ahead of where the boss fell.

If you dodge the initial slam, you won’t get hit by the spikes on the ground. Try tododge to the sidesonly to avoid this attack.

Side Sweep

Shigandang will sweep its arm toone of its sides to attack you. The boss will roar just as it’s about to execute this attack.

The attack is fairly easy toavoid by dodging. The boss raises one of its arms into mid-air as he sweeps it to the side. It only uses this move when the player is either on one of his sides so you can see it coming.

Explosive Stomp

The boss will raise one of its legs and arms at once into the air. It will thenbring down its arm and thrust it into the ground, releasing a shockwave. After a short delay, the ground will start to glow, and, as the boss pulls out its arm from the ground, theground will explode. This attack has ahuge AOE. The giant rock on its back might rattle a little before the boss is about to execute this attack.

You have tododge just when the boss is about to hitthe ground to avoid the shockwave, and then dodge again as it is about to pull its arm out. You’ll be able to avoid the explosion by dodging even if your timing is slightly off.

Stomp And Smash

Shigandang will stand up,stomping the ground with one of its feet, and then smashing both of its hands on the ground, which will also unleash a shockwave.

This attack is easy to recognize. The stomp can be avoided bydodging in any direction. If you manage to dodge the smash, you’ll automatically avoid the shockwave. If you’re at a distance, attempt to dodge exactly when the boss smashes the groundto avoid the shockwave.

Two Punches

If you’re right in its face, the boss might stand up andthrow two puncheson the ground.

Dodge in any directionjust as its fist is about to hitthe ground to avoid this attack.

Body Slam and Exploding Spikes

This attack is similar to the regular Body Slam, but just as the boss lands, several spikes will pop out of the ground. Shigandang’s fist will start to glow, and right as it thrusts its fists into the ground, thespikes will explode. This attack doesn’t create any shockwaves.

You have tododge as the boss hits the ground. The spike will pop up at your pre-dodge position, and you can simply step away from the spikes to avoid the explosion.

Smash And Pull Out

Shigandang will stand up and smash the ground with both of its hands. As it pulls its arms out of the ground, awave of stones will erupt from the groundin the direction the boss is currently facing.

Both of these attacks can be easily avoided bydodging to the sides.

How To Defeat Shigandang

To defeat Shigandang, the best strategy you’re able to follow is tojust stick to its back.Stay behind it, and you will shut down half of its attacks. You’ll still have to keep an eye open for the Body Slam, Side Sweep, and Shoulder Slam attacks, but most of the time, the boss will just keep turning around to find you.

Avoid using the Rock Solid spell to parry Shigandang’s attacks. The boss is made out of rocks itself, so the spell doesn’t have much effect, and you’ll simply get knocked out of the stone form.

You can useImmobilize to deal a lot of damageto the boss andcharged heavy attackscan also be useful during the battle; you have to stay close to this boss because most of its attacks are a lot difficult to avoid at range. You should alsoavoid using the Pluck of Many spellas Shigandang has lots of good AOE attacks and high defense, making it much more worthwhile to preserve your mana for either Immobilize or Cloud Step.
