Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeanceadds a bevy of new features, most notably an all-new story route called Canon of Vengeance. Those who select it at the start of the game will be treated to numerous exclusive side quests in addition to its diverging main story. One of these side quests, “God of Old, Devourer of Kin”, pits players against the mighty Saturnus.
We’ve included the steps necessary to reach this fight as well as, of course, some strategic suggestions on the fight itself. Victory over Saturnus unlocks yet another powerful demon to the Nahobino’s arsenal, so you won’t want to skip this.
How To Start “God Of Old, Devourer Of Kin”
Just to reiterate,“God of Old, Devourer of Kin” is available exclusively to players who choose the Canon of Vengeancestory route at the start of the game.
Deep into thefourth and final zonein Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance,the main quest will send you on amission to defeat Zeus and Odinin a combined battle to further the Nahobino’s road to godhood. One way or another,this objective must be completed for this side quest.
That’s because, as he’ll soon tell you,Saturnus, the primary character in “Gods of Old, Devourer of Kin” tasks you with destroying Zeus. You’ll find Saturnusin Ueno Park. (He’s big, so uh, he’s kind of hard to miss.)
You can speak with Saturnus to initiate this questeither before or after fighting Zeus. Like many side quests in Shin Megami Tensei 5, the client demon will simply express surprise if you’ve already done the killing deed for them ahead of schedule.
Regardless of when you first converse with Saturnus, your mission, fulfilled or upcoming, is straightforward.Return to Saturnus once Zeus is slain, and as always, heed your companion’s warning, asa fight will soon erupt.
How To Beat Saturnus
Relative to many of the other boss-tier enemies we’ve covered in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance,beating Saturnus is a fairly straightforward affair. Saturnus will attackoverwhelmingly with fire-type skills like Maragibarion.
Your best bet, then, is torefrain from bringing any demons weak to fire. Check the Nahobino’s present affinity as well.If you can set up the Nahobino’s affinity so that he resists, nullifies, or even absorbs fire, you’ll be in prime position to withstand virtually every blow.
SinceTao has rejoinedby the time you’re able to fight Saturnus, strongly considerbringing her along in your active party. She makes a stellar healer and buffer - possibly the best one in the game.
Load up onheavy ice-elemental hitters; they don’t necessarily need to begin their SMT journey as ice-elemental.We upped Alice’s ice affinity, and after giving her several magic-stat-increasing items,she soon became our strongest mage. Saturnus was helpless next to her.
Freikugal EX(in our case, devastatingly delivered by the aforementioned Alice)will deal extreme damage to Saturnusdespite its elementally neutral nature.
We found Saturnus to be one of the easiest optional bosses in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, so we’re confident that with these tactics in mind, you’ll blow him away in due time.
