Dukmar is a ruthless god from the Great Below inFlintlock: The Siege of Dawn.At first, his boss fight seems similar to that of Rammuha, whom you previously dispatched in Three Peaks. However, once you figure out the rhythm of the battle, Dukmar will make a sudden change to his strategy.

You’ll need to counter all of Dukmar’s maneuvers in both phases just to survive, let alone winning the fight. We’ve put together our most reliable strategy for defeating the scourge of Sibyl and restoring order to Wanderer’s Rest.

Best Build For Fighting Dukmar

Many of the same weaponsthat you used against Rammuhawill serve you well against Dukmar. TheJudge’s HammerandHarbinger’s Axeare ideal, since he starts the fight armored but loses his protection (and thus his immunity to Burn damage) midway through.

You’ll need to rely on your pistol both for damage and interrupts during this battle, for reasons detailed below. That means you’ll need both power and ammo capacity;Nor’s Pistolis your best bet, so be sure to upgrade it to at least Rare before going after Dukmar. For your secondary firearms, take theMarksman’s MusketandFlame Cannon, the latter of which can be retrieved from a chest atop Breakwater Cliffs north of the city.

It’s very important that youdon’t run out of pistol shotsduring this fight, so bring theSapper Set. You only need two of the three pieces to get the set bonus, so you may add a third piece from another set of your choice, which is useful if you have a heavily-upgraded helmet that you’d prefer to keep equipped.

Lastly, equip Enki with the Cursed Jade. Its Poison effect doesn’t do much damage, but every little bit helps! Grenades aren’t a huge part of this fight, but dropping aRipper Grenadeat Dukmar’s feet early on can help get some damage through his armor.

How To Beat Dukmar In Phase One

In Dukmar’s first phase, heslowly walks toward you, cycling between broad, sweeping sword swings and jumping area attacks. The sword attacks can beparried or interrupted with pistol shotsas normal, but the jump attacks need to be dealt with in a unique manner;jump just as Dukmar hits the ground, and double-jump at least once to stay in the air until the electricity field he creates vanishes. Getting caught in the field isan almost guaranteed death!

Occasionally, Dukmar willcharge for a powerful beam attack. You can evade it with a well-timed Black Powder Dodge, but the better strategy is toshoot him with the Marksman’s Musketwhile he’s charging. Your pistol doesn’t have enough kick to interrupt the spell, but a larger gun does.Save the Flame Cannon’s ammo for later.

Avoid Building Prime

Oddly, you actually want todraw out the first phase as long as possible. That’s because Dukmar becomes a lot more dangerous once his armor is gone.Avoid building up his Prime Gauge, instead wearing down his health withpistol countersinstead of melee any time you get a Parry or a Poised Shot. Use melee attacks with your Judge’s Hammeronly to recover Black Powder Charges, and then only two at a time - the third strike from the hammer is very slow and leaves you open to retaliation.

Prime Gauge or not, Dukmar will shift to his second phasewhen his health bar is halfway depleted.

How To Beat Dukmar In Phase Two

Once Dukmar’s armor is gone, switch to the Harbinger’s Axe and Flame Cannon. He may or may not try to get in one more area attack, but once that’s done he’llleap to the edge of the arena. You’ll need to dodge his incoming shots - they’resimilar to those of the Scribes you fought on the way here, but much larger. The second shot in each salvomust be evaded with a Black Powder Dodgeif you want to avoid damage.

When Dukmar starts charging his beam, shoot the Flame Cannon at him. This will interrupt him and cause him to fall off the stage, giving you alenghty recover animationin which to hack away at him and build up Burn stacks.

From here, Dukmar with eitherrepeat the same tacticor attempt to engage you in melee, trading in his previous strikes forclose-range Scribe slashes.Interrupt the slashes with pistol shots and hit him with melee attacks. This is a perfect time to use a Witheringif you have one charged up.

When Dukmar’s health gets critical, he’ll launch his final, desperate and most dangerous maneuver - a rapid-fire assault of jumping AoEs, one right after the other. Getting caught in even one electricity field means death, so you’ll need totime your jumps and aerial attacksto wear him down while touching the ground as little as possible.Rely on Burn damagefrom the stacks you’ve inflicted to finish him off, so you can focus on staying alive!

Once Dukmar’s health is depleted, remember to shoot himwhile Enki traps him. If you don’t, you’ll have to start the phase over!
