How To Prepare For Black Bear Guai
Black Bear Guai isthe first boss you should start planning for.
For Black Bear Guai,we recommend observing the following smart investments:
The first will shut down Guai’s wind attacks in the second phase, the second will ensure your damage output, and the final bit will keep your clothes from lighting aflame while you’re focusing on the fight.
We also recommend equipping the Guangmou Qi Summon as the second phase of this fight will have an immunity to the Burning status effect.

Suggested Counter
Windy Leap
Getting on all fours, the bear takes off and disappears in a cloud of black mist. He then reappears in a blue flash with a jump on all fours, landing belly-first atop the player.
Wait until the bear has leapt from the wind anddodge just as it is about to landatop you.

Windy Descent
Much like above, but instead of appearing in a blue flash, there is no fanfare and the bear leaps out of a black mist in a human-like jump that drops atop the player. Upon landing, he swipes with his left paw, then his right, and ends his combo with a double-fisted slam on the ground.
Same as above, butdodge right, then forward, and aim to get behind the bear by the time it does its ground slam.Attack from behind.

Ground Slam
Raising both fists over his head and slams them into the ground.
Watch its hands andbegin sprinting aroundthe bear to stand behind and attack.

Reverse Side Driver
Putting his weight onto his left foot, he leans to his left before dealing an underhanded left swipe, a right swipe, and then flopping backwards. Can prematurely end before flopping backward (interrupted combo if the player is not behind Guai at the time of the backflop).
Dodge forwardthrough the first swipes and again as he flops backwards onto you.

Roaring Stomp
Standing on two legs, he lets out a long roar before launching a short combo attack. His attacks start with the left paw, followed and finished by a left stomp.
Dodge rightthrough the paw to end behind him and out of reach of the stomp.Attack.

Phase Two Transition: Fire Burst
Roaring, the bear leans backward before thrusting his front paws into the ground. Fire gathers up his arms, and several pillars of flame will erupt from the earth around him.
When you see the transition, sprint awayto put in some distance and prepare for the second stage.

Phase Two
Black Wind
Identical to the Black Wind King’s attack without the central ending. He disappears in a black wind, charging at the player three times before (and this is new) charging a fourth time at the player in a fiery assault.
Use your Immobilize spellto prematurely end this attackor dodge through his chargeswith each blue flash.Towards the end, wait for the delayed charge and dodge forwardthrough it. Attack at the end if possible.
Fire’s Fury
Paws alight, the king slams his paws into the ground one at a time (left, then right). After a brief delay, he launches himself forward with a powerful right-handed sweeping attack.
Dodge backwards twice, keeping some distance, andthen dodge forwardthrough the leaping swipe.
Tripping Swipes
Stomping his left foot on the ground and squaring up with the player, the bear slams his fists into the ground and follows up with the left-right swipe combo that leans forward and almost ends in a trip.
Back away when you see the foot stomp andprepare to dodge forwardthrough the swipes after his fist slam.
Although this is technically the second phase of Black Wind King’s fight,Black Bear Guai has his own mini-second phasewith a few new attacks and flashy fire effects.
His moveset is almost entirely separatefrom the king, meaning you should treat him as his own bosswith the exception of one attack: Black Wind.
As with the previous fight, you canshut down this attack with your Immobilize spell.
Most of his attacks in general are lumbering, and you’ll noticehe has a bit of a blindspot behind him.It can only be reached by his Reverse Side Driver.
With the exception of his dangerous and sudden backflop, you’ll want tostudy the following attacksfor optimal success:
How To Defeat Black Bear Guai
Black Bear Guai is a difficult fightfor the sheer amount of damage he can deal in return for the little bit of damage you can deal to his massive healthpool.
There is no special gimmick to Guai, only a mastery of the spells and resources you’ve been given in the first chapter. So, it’s time to practice.
The first thing you’ll want to note is thatGuai is only immune to Burning during his second phase. This means, you’ll want toopen fairly soon with your transformationto get the most of it.
This can take a massive chunk of Gaui’s health to leave you fresh for the more spectacular second phase.
We also recommend doing your Qi Summon early due to its summoning time. Guai’s second phase has a lot of long coverage moves with lunges and leaps, so it’s easier to safely get your Qi Summon on the ground without a trade.
As mentioned above,Guai is also susceptible to camping behind himwith the caveat of a single move. Use this time to build up your Focus Points.
With Focus Points built up,prepare a Smash or Strong Jump attackto land some massive poise damage, staggering Guai out of dangerous moves to open the window for more combos.
The best combo openingsfrom Guai to build up your Focus Points are:
During his transition to his second phase, it was generally safer tokeep our distance from Guai and prepare a Body-Cooling-Powderfor the influx of fire coming. Trying to damage Guai during this time more often led to burns and moderate damage.
As the second phase began, saving our Manaallowed us to prevent him from entering his Black Wind attack, creating large openings for damage.
As general tips go for those struggling with Guai:
With much tenacity and focus, you’ll eventually put the bear down andbe rewarded with a plethora of boons, including:
Pockets full and a bird acquired, you’re finally ready to take on the real story of Black Myth: Wukong. We believe in you, and have fun!
