You will face many mandatory and optional bosses throughout yourBlack Myth: Wukongplaythrough. Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang is one of the optional bosses in the game, that you will encounter in Chapter 1. However, you will find it in a slightly hidden area in the Bamboo Groove area, and you might miss it if you haven’t explored enough.

Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang is one of the several frog-like bosses that you’ll encounter throughout the game. Defeating it also rewards the player with his Spirit Summon. Compared to other optional bosses, Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang is fairly easy to deal with, even without many Spark upgrades.

The Destine One can reach Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang by jumping off the log.

How To Find Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang

Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang is a Yaoguai chief boss that can be accessed after reaching theBamboo Groove area. From the Snake Trail Shrine, you canjump off the log to your left, and then you’ll land in a small canal. There will be a Snake-like warrior on the ledge right next to the canal.

You’ll get to this area after defeating Lingxuzi, a Yaogaui King boss who is residing at the end of the Forest of Wolves area.

The Destined One is fighting the lesser frogs in Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang’s arena.

Defeating the warrior with a snake’s face and progressing further will lead you to theGuangmouBoss Battle, but to find Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang, you’ll have togo in the opposite directionfrom the Snake-like warrior until you reach an open pond. Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang will be waiting for you there.

Before fighting it, you’ll have to take care of the three lesser frogs in the area. Otherwise, the fight could become unnecessarily difficult.

We recommend you go upstairs from theSnake Trail Shrine first, where you’ll encounter the monk who will cast a spell on your gourd, allowing you to absorb spirits and use them in battle.

How To Avoid

Leap and Shriek

If you enter its range for the first time, the boss willleap towards you and unleash a short shriekthat stuns you for a short duration.

The Destined One has been rewarded a Tadpole after defeating Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang.

You can easily avoid Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang’s leap bydodging backwards. The shriek has a short range, but even if you get hit by it, it only stuns you momentarily and doesn’t deal any damage.

Hand Sweep

Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang will often use his hands to do a sweep attack. It doesn’t deal a lot of damage, but thesweeps can knock you down, allowing the boss to continue its offense.

The hand sweeps have a short range and can easily be dodged bysprinting out of its range or by dodgingat the correct time.

Ground Slam

The boss will oftenslam the groundif you’re at close range.

The attack can be avoided bysprinting out of its range or by dodging backwards.

Backleg thrust

Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang’s most annoying attack is when itturns its back on you and does a kick. The boss can throw this attack multiple times in quick succession.

The correct way to dodge this attack is tododge forwardat the correct time. If you successfully dodge this attack, you’ll come to its front, preventing it from immediately continuing its offense, and you’ll be able to get a few attacks in.

Jumping Attack

The boss will often jump into the air,slamming the groundas it lands.

Sprint away or dodge awayfrom the boss to avoid this attack.

Tongue Sweep Combo

Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang will often pull out its tongue and do athree-hit combo attack.

Dodging this attack from his front is difficult as you must dodge at the perfect time. However, if you manage to avoid the first attack andquickly sprint to its side, the boss will miss the entire combo.

Tummy Tackle

The boss will lean back a little, and immediately launch itself towards you, tackling the Destined Onewith its stomach.

The attack has a long range and is difficult to predict. you’re able to still avoid this bydodging to the sidesat the correct time.

If you’ve equipped some gear, such as thePilgrim’s armor setwhich can be crafted at theKeeper’s Shrine, you’ll be able to tank most of the attacks easily. Most attacks leave this boss completely open for your offense, if you’ve managed to successfully evade them, such as the Tongue Sweep Combo.

Avoiding the Tummy Tackle is difficult, and even if you get hit by it,just get up quickly and get out of the boss’ effective range. All of the other attacks are fairly slow and can easily be dodged after visually confirming what attack the boss is going to throw at you.

How To Defeat Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang

The real threat right before you enter this boss fight is the lesser frogs that are in the arena, which may prevent you from avoiding Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang’s initial attacks. There would be a total ofthree lesser frogsin the area. Two of them can be dealt with as soon as you enter the arena before beginning the boss fight.

The third and final lesser frog is right under the boss’ range and if you attack it, the boss will leap towards you. It’s best toquickly take care of the third lesser frogand then focus on the boss fight.

The lesser frogs explode on death, causing Poison build-up. It’s best to get away from them after killing them either by sprinting or by dodging away from them.

The strategy to deal with this boss is simple, you have tostay on its sides and avoid its hand sweeps. You can also sprint and circle around the boss to get behind it and then throw your attacks, but you’ll have to be wary of its Backleg Thrust attack.

Staying at mid-range, while actively circling around the boss is also an effective strategy. You’ll be able to dodge most attacks this way.

Immobilizing the boss during its combosis also a good strategy to get it off you and heal yourself. If you’re doing good, you can use theImmobilizespell to continue your offense.

Baw-Li-Guhh-Langis also fairly weak to fire attacks, which also makes it the perfect opponent to try out the newRed Tidesability you received after defeating Guangzhi in the Forest of Wolves.

The Rewards For Defeating Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang

Defeating Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang rewards you with392 Will, 2 Yarn, and 482 Experience. You also receive aTadpolefor defeating the boss. However, the real reward for defeating this boss is its Spirit Summon.

If you’ve talked to the monk near theSnake Trail Shrine, you’ll be able to absorb Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang’s Spirit and will be able to take its form during battles. Equipping its Spirit Summon will also passively reduce the stamina cost of jumps and jumping attacks.

If you fight this boss before talking to the monk and obtaining guidance, you’ll be unable to absorb its spirit. However, you’ll still be able to collect its spirit from any shrine, after you’ve obtained the guidance.

The Tadpole is a required item forupgrading this Spirit Summon. After defeating Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang, you’ll be able to upgrade its Spirit Summon only once with the tadpole you have received as a reward for the battle, but you will obtain more later in the game after fighting more frogs.

By using Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang’s Spirit Summon, you’ll take its form and use its tongue tosweep an area in front of you, dealing a fair amount of damage. It can be useful while fighting against a horde of enemies, which you will often do as you progress through the game.
