Until you start terraforming and increasing the oxygen levels in the atmosphere of your chosen planet inOcean World: Eden Crafters, you’ll run into issues when exploring farther: mostly dying to a lack of oxygen, but starvation can be an issue too. There are ways to improve your survival – and start terraforming – but you’ll need resources to do that.

And you’ll need more than a lot of them to craft everything you need. Sure, you can start mining little ores with your handheld tool, but the biggest and most helpful machines need hundreds of resources to craft, and that tool won’t cut it. You’ll need to get some mining machines and start automating.

How To Explore Safely

Before you go out to do any exploring, there are afew items you’ll want to have on hand, even if you’ve started getting some equipment upgrades:Oxygen Capsules,Food, andsome basic materialssuch asIron Bars,Cement, andIron Rodsin case you need to do some quick building.

Upgrading your Equipment at the Assembling Benchcan increase your maximum Oxygen levels and give you more Battery Power for your Dismantler, as well as more Stamina.

As you exploreand until the planet is more terraformed, you’llgradually lose HP and Oxygen, and both theOxygen Capsules and Foodwill be key toreplenishing these stats, andkeep you from dyingout in the world.

Once you unlock the Greenhouse, you’ll get access to food that restores30 Food and 50 Food, respectively.

Whenever you go out, unless it’s close by and you aren’t staying too long, it’s good tobring at least five to ten Oxygen Capsules and between ten and 20 Food, depending on what type you have and how much Food it gives.

You’ll also wantenough Iron Bars, Cement, and Iron Rodsto craft a singleLiving Compartment and a Workbenchin case you need it,as well as a Miner or Advanced Miner and a Windmillif you know you’regoing out to find any large mineral deposits.

It’s also agood idea to bring Iron Platesto make Container V1s and Conveyor belts in caseany deposits you find are far awayfrom your main base.

How To Gather Resources

Yourfirst way of gathering resourcesis with yourhandheld Dismantler. It iscapable of breaking down the grounditself, as well assingular ore depositslike Raw Iron and Quartz andLarge Rock Deposits.

Each secondof usedepletes some of your stamina, and yourstamina recovers after a brief periodof rest, but this isn’t very efficient, especially if you need a lot of materials. Thosesingle ore deposits run out, and yourDismantler isn’t powerful enough for Large Ore Deposits– you’ll need to get intomachines to extract materialsfrom them.

Single ore deposits do respawnif you’re in need of some materials quickly, but the rate is slow, and it’squicker to get into mining machines.

Thefirst mining machineyou get access to isthe Miner, and itunlocks afteryou havebuilt a Living Compartment, aWorkbench, andstarted gathering materialswith your Dismantler.

The preview of the Miner willturn blue when it’s close enough to extract resourcesand after placement, it’ll beginautomatically extractingthem at arate of 15 per minute, but it’slimited to only producing raw ores.

Still, it’squicker than regular mining, and it’llstart getting you plenty of resources, enough to start upgrading to bigger and better options.

The Miner, and the Advanced Miner, can beused on six different resourcesand willgenerally produce the raw productunless attached to a Forgevia Conveyor Belts:

No

Basalt

With theregular Miner, you’ll need totransport everything by handback to your base, but it’ll be a bit slow. Thenext upgrade is the Advanced Miner, automating the gatheringto make it faster – and more fun.

How To Automate Resource Gathering

When youget the Assembling Bench, you’llunlock some new Production machines: theAdvanced Miner, theForge, as well as theConveyor Belts and Container V1s, which are in the Logistics category, butboth play a big part in how those two machines work.

Advanced Minerswork and are placed in the same way as regular Miners, but they work far faster –gathering 60 ore per minuteas opposed to 20 – and they alsohave an exit at the back where Conveyor Belts go.

Next, you’ll want tomake a Forge, which is crafted with:

Place it a few steps away from the Advanced Miner, then try toplace a Conveyor Belt. When thepreview turns green, you canhook it up to the backof the Advanced Miner and thenattach it to the entrance of the Forge.

Now, theraw ores from the Advanced Miner will flow straight into the Forgeand be automatically converted into their processed material if they have one that needs a Forge.

Whenplacing a Forge or a Container of either type, you cantell the exits and entrances by the directional arrowsthat flashin the placement preview.

Next, you’ll need tocraft a Container V1 or Container V2. TheV1 is the cheaper of the twooptions at onlyten Iron Plates, but theV2 offers much more storage, though bothserve the same purpose: they’ll beholding all the processed materialsthe Forge is making.

Each individual Conveyor Belt costs one Iron Plateto build and counts for a few steps worth of ground covered, and 50 Iron Plates can cover a massive amount of ground if the deposit is far away.

Do the same thing you did with the Forge and Advanced Miner, andconnect a Conveyor Beltfrom theForge’s exit to the Container’s entrance, and theForge will start outputting everything it makesto the Container it’s attached toas long as there is powerto all three machinesnearby.

You’ll want toplace the Containers closer to your basefor quick access to the materials, as themachines can keep workinginfinitelyunless catastrophic weather occursand your machines andpower systems aren’t resistantto it.

Whileit isn’t fast, you can hop onto andride Conveyor belts back and forthacross any locations you’re mining at can offer afun and hands-off way of travelingacross longer distances.
