After spending the last year locked away in Apple Arcade,Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fatehas finally made the leap to other consoles thanks to a Switch port that launched this week. That’s a big deal because Splintered Fate is the very first TMNT roguelite, taking heavy inspriation from games like Hades instead of the 2D beat-em-ups we’ve come to expect from the heroes in a half shell.

If you’re familiar with the roguelite genre, then you’re probably aware that they’reknown for their difficulty and high replayability, with completed runs taking a lot of practise, upgrades, and skill to achieve. If you’re wondering how far Splintered Fate takes this beloved formula and how much time you’re going to need to sink into it to hit the credits, then look no further.

How Long Does It Take To Beat?

Completing a run of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate is going to require you to make your way through four main areas, including the Sewer, the Docks, the City, and the Rooftops. Each area has multiple combat rooms, a mini-boss, and a final boss to go up against before clearing the area, so you’ve got your work cut out for you to do it all in one go.

As is the case with every roguelite,it’s practically impossible to beat a run your first time around, as you’ll need to upgrade your character’s stats to make them stand a chance against some of the later bosses. Of course, there’s some luck involved when it comes to which bonuses and buffs you get given, but it took me seven tries to finally complete a run.

A completed run can take around an hour in the early game, which means thatit will likely take you around five or six hours to beat Shredder for the first time.

How Long Does It Take To Reach The True Ending?

If you’ve played Hades then you’re no doubt aware thatbeating a run for the first time in a roguelite is just the beginning, and that’s true of Splintered Fate as well. After defeating Shredder for the first time, you’ll be kicked back to the start of the game and told you need to keep reaching the end to complete the story.

To reach the true ending of Splintered Fate, you’re going to need to complete eight separate runs. That might sound like a lot (it’s two less than Hades, for what it’s worth), but the difficulty doesn’t significnatly increase from the moment you complete your first run. Once you’ve completed the game once, you’ll likely have the stats and skills to do it over and over again with ease, especially as you keep unlocking more upgrades.

Overall,it took me around 10 hours to reach the true ending of TMNT: Splintered Fate, which is a lot less than it usually takes in most roguelites. It’ll depend on your skill level and what difficulty you play on, butit took me around 14 runs before I’d seen the finale.

How Long Does It Take To Complete?

Just because you’ve reached the true ending of Splintered Fate, it doesn’t mean that you’ve fully completed the game. There are stilloptional Portal and Gauntlet challenges to beat during runs(which unlock after defeating Shredder for the first time) and you’ll likely still have a bunch of character and artifact upgrades to unlock.

To unlock these upgrades, you’re going to need a ton of Dragon and Dreamer Coins, as well as items unlocked from beating bosses, so that’s going to add lots of runs to your playtime. I’d estimate thatfully completing everything Splintered Fate has to offer would take you at least 20 to 25 hourswith how slowly these Coins are unlocked, so there’s a lot more for you to do after the credits roll.
