You start off as a new owner of an unkept farm land inStardew Valley. As the newest farmer of Pelican Town, you are tasked with restoring the farm to its former glory through farming, fishing, mining, and gathering of various resources.
There are different machines that you’re able to craft in order to increase your profits and efficiency on the farm. These machines can process your goods, produce useful resources, get you around your farm faster, or even display information. One such machine is the Farm Computer. This device can inform you of various relevant information about your farm at a glance.
How To Unlock The Farm Computer Recipe
TheFarm Computercan only be obtained by crafting it, but you’ll first need tounlock its recipe. The recipe is a reward you can receive from Demetrius, aftercompleting either the Aquatic Overpopulation quest or the Biome Balance quest.
The quests you need to unlock the Farm Computer recipe can be found on thespecial orders board in front of the Mayor’s Manor. You’ll only be able to access this after thesecond day of Fall in your first year.
The type of special orders that can be displayed on the board vary from time to time, so you’ll need tocheck in regularly to find the specific one you need.
For Demetrius' requests, he will ask you to helpreduce the population of a certain fish by fishing them out of the watersof the valley. For Aquatic Overpopulation, you’ll need tocatch ten of a given fish. Biome Balance will require you tocatch twenty.
You’ll have onlyseven days to complete the quest.
Using Targeted Baitshould help you with finishing these special orders. Apart from that, you can alsouseWild Baitor Challenge Bait to increase the number of fish you reel in per catch.
Once you’ve completed the order,you should receive a recipe for the Farm Computer the next day.

Once you have all the necessary ingredients,open your crafting menuandselect the Farm Computerfrom the list of items you can craft.
How To Use The Farm Computer
Once you have your Farm Computer, you canplace it down on any open space. It will then analyze all the information about the location it is in.
When picking a spot for your Farm Computer, you should take note thatit will only display information about the particular location it is in. You will not be able to access information about other areas.
To view the data, simplystand next to the computerandinteract with it. A screen will pop up displaying the area being covered and all relevant information.
Placing your Farm Computer on the farmhas the most information that can be gathered:
Displays the totalnumber ofHayin your Silo.
Total Crops
Displays the totalnumber of crops, mature or not, on your farm.
Crops Ready
Displays the totalnumber of crops that can already be harvestedon your farm.
Unwatered Crops
Displays the totalnumber of crops that have not been wateredfor the day.
Crops Ready in Greenhouse
Displays the totalnumber of crops that can already be harvested inside your greenhouse.
Open Tilled Soil
Displays thenumber of tilled tiles without anything plantedin them on your farm.
Displays thenumber of items that can be foragedon your farm.
Machines Ready
Displays the number of machines on your farm that havefinished their production.
Farm Cave Status
Indicateswhether or not there is produceinside your farm cave.
Placing the Farm Computer down outside your farm will still display similar relevant information,except for ‘Pieces of Hay’,‘Crops Ready In Greenhouse’and’Farm Cave Status’.
One great way to use the Farm Computer is forhunting foraged items.Place one down in any area of the valley, and you’ll be able to see if there is anything you can forage in the area.
This is especially useful forcompleting requests that require specific foraged items.
