Amenities are used inCivilization 6to keep track of how happy the population is with your rule. Each cities tracks Amenities separately, so it’s possible to have some cities that are quite content while others are less happy with the current state of affairs.
It’s easy to overlook Amenities, since their effects might not always be immediately apparent. Keeping track of them and keeping your cities well-supplied with luxuries and entertainment, however, can be the difference between victory and defeat, or between a good campaign and a great one.

What Do Amenities Do In Civilization 6?
Cities in Civilization 6 requreone Amenity for every two Citizens, starting with the first one; a city with one population needs one Amenity, three Citizens need a total of two, five Citizens need three, and so on. If you meet that requirement, the city will not receive any bonuses, but they won’t take any penalties either. A city without sufficient Amenities will suffer increasing penalties based on how large the shortfall is, while a city with more Amenities than necessary will get bonuses.
The bonuses and scaling will bedifferent depending on whether you have the Gathering Storm DLC enabled. In either case, though, having more than enough Amenities will provideimproved yields, while insufficient Amenities will hamper growth, reduce yields, and potentially even cause rebels to spawn.

In Gathering Storm, you won’t start to see bonuses until you have at least three more Amenities than a city requires, making it slightly harder to enhance your cities this way.
How To Get More Amenities In Civilization 6
The most basic source of Amenities areLuxury Resources. Each Luxury that you have access to, either by producing it on your own or trading for it,provides one Amenity each to four cities within your empire, with preference given to the cities that have the fewest Amenities. Having extra copies of a Luxury doesn’t generate any extra Amenities, sotrade them awayfor things you need; they’re useless otherwise.
CinnamonandCloves, which can both be obtained by gaining suzerainty over Zanzibar, can supply up to six cities.
The other main source of Amenities areEntertainment ComplexesandWater Parks. These Districts provide large amounts of Amenities directly to their home cities, and their advanced buildings can provide Amenities to cities within a radius as well. This makes it crucial toplace them where they will be able to serve multiple cities.
Wonders,Great People,Policy Cards,andCity-Statesoften have unique abilities that provide extra Amenities as well. Be on the lookout for opportunities to claim them.
Increasing a city’s Amenities via entertainment can also cause Luxuries to be redistributed. If your core cities have enough entertainment, that can free up Luxuries to go to smaller, recently-founded cities and help them grow.
Being at war for too long will start todrain Amenities from your citiesvia war weariness unless you’re playing as Alexander. While war is often necessary in Civilization, remember that a peaceful empire is a happy one! It’s often better to end a prolonged conflict rather than try to drag it out.
