Summary
The latestHelldivers 2update was, on paper, set to unify players. A new warbond, new enemies, a new difficulty level, and a new swamp location were all set to be exciting additions to the game. That’s not the case, though.
Unfortunately for Arrowhead, and not for the first time, Helldivers 2 is being review-bombed as players are once again unhappy with some of the changes made to the title.

2,100 Negative Reviews In A Day
While not quite as drastic as the previous review-bombing, Helldivers 2 has been hit by a surge of negative reviews following theEscalation of Freedomupdate.
Over the past 24 hours, the game hasreceived over 2,100 negative reviewsand counting, a significant increase given that it has barely received a one all month.

Players' frustrations are stemming from a variety of issues. Predominantly, the nerf of the game’s flamethrower, just in time for the flamethrower-focused warbond, has caused major frustration and tension within the community; however, there are a raft of other complaints.
After calling for anti-tank missiles since the game launched, Arrowhead obliged fans in this update. Unfortunately, these mines were called “as worthless as we all expected,” as they explode with any contact, not just heavies. Not exactly what players were looking for.

Fans of the game are seemingly also annoyed by Arrowhead’s messaging. Just a few months ago, the game’s community managertold playersthey would “talk to the team about the approach to balance,” because “every time someone finds something fun, the fun is removed.” Evidently, the devs disagreed.
This spate of negative reviews is at least the third time the game has faced such a quandary. In February, the game dropped to “Mixed"on Steam following hefty server issues, and in May, it washit with more negative reviewsfollowing the PSN sign-in requirements. This prompted the developers toask players to remove the reviewsand also tease that they’dturn these reviews into an in-game cape.
