Helldivers 2isin a bit of a rough spot at the moment, mostly down to the ill-received Escalation of Freedom update which includeda bunch of nerfs to fan favorite weapons. Arrowhead has promised it’s gonna to work to improve the game based on fan feedback, and many are hoping that the imminent arrival of the Illuminate will breathe some new life into the game.
We still don’t know when the Illuminate is coming,despite the massive number of leaksandin-game screenshotswe’ve seen of them so far, but a new discovery made earlier today suggests they’re right around the corner.First shared on the Helldivers 2 subreddit, a mysterious purple patch was spotted on the game’s Galactic Map, before vanishing just as abruptly as it appeared.
A total of five different sectors turned purple, and a closer inspection revealed that the game had marked them as under “Illuminate Control.” We know that fans on social media like to play weird jokes on occasion, and this could have easily been an elaborate hoax, buttwo separate threads by different peoplespotted the purple territory, ruling out the possibility of this being a very good edit.
It was later on that Helldivers 2 players then noticed a rather suspicious “System Outage Update” from the game itself, which explained that a “recent service outage” of the Galactic Map has now been resolved and was apparently caused by a Comms. Technician getting stranded and dying in the server farm. Sure Arrowhead, let’s go with that.
Helldivers 2 Players Think A Fourth Faction Is Coming
If we’re being serious, this is most likely Arrowhead testing ahead of the Illuminate’s arrival, and someone accidentally let slip. It could also be a little teaser from Arrowhead, as it hasslipped mysterious glitches and imagery into Helldivers 2 in the past. Whatever the case, this is almost definitely the territory that the Illuminate will capture once they arrive.
If these five sectors are indeed the ones that will be captured, some fans have pointed out that it will leave almost a quarter of the Galactic Map unoccupied. While many have pointed out that this area was previously occupied by the Automatons, it’s difficult to see them taking the areas back now they have Cyberstan. That leaves a large chunk of galaxy empty, and some reckon that Arrowhead is eventuallyplanning to throw a fourth hostile faction into the mixto spice things up.
Whatever ends up happening, it’s pretty clear that things are going to get spicy for the game’s remaining Helldivers, so here’s hoping Arrowhead manages to turn the ship around and make some meaningful changes tostop its player base from slipping awaybefore it can realize its creative vision.
