Luckily, cheat codes exist. Most cheat codes give you awesome perks, such as invincibility mode, endless money, or super cool weapons. But game developers can be feisty. They know players will mess around with cheat codes just to see what happens. Be wary the next time you try an unknown cheat code!
9Player Pratfalls
Saint’s Row 2
In Saint’s Row 2, you find yourself embroiled in a gang turf war as you seek revenge on those who betrayed you and reestablish control of the Saints Gang to become the rightful king of Stilwater. In an open-world filled with shoot-outs and puzzles, a handy cheat code can go a long way.
You use the Pratfall mechanic in the Insurance Fraud mini-game in Saint’s Row 2, where you cause as much injury to yourself by ragdolling in front of oncoming traffic.
Youcan enter cheat codes on your in-game cellphoneto activate at your leisure. One of these codes is Player Pratfalls, whichchanges your attack buttons to make you ragdollinstead. Instead of rushing forward with some well-placed combos, you flop on the sidewalk like a Magikarp using Splash.
The Konami Code is one of the most famous cheat codes in the video game world, known for granting items and extra lives. This iconic code has appeared in numerous games, including Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. A spiritual successor to Castlevania, Bloodstainedfeatures Metroidvania-style levelsas protagonist Miriam fights against the evil Alchemist Guild.
If you get stuck on a level, you might experiment with the Konami Code to see what awesome perks you’ll receive.
However, instead of a new power-up or weapon, Bloodstainedenters 1986 mode, reverting the controls to those of classic Castlevania games. This mode reduces Miriam’s abilities to only moving forward and backward, jumping, and attacking. While the 1986 mode significantly increases the game’s difficulty, it does come with the bonus of giving Miriam a stylish new outfit.
In Heretic, you play as Corvus, an elf fighting his way through hordes of undead to thwart the Serpent Rider’s evil schemes.Heretic drew heavy inspiration from Doom, particularly in level layout and weapon design.
Given Heretic’s obvious parallels to Doom, you’ll probably be tempted to test Doom’s cheat codes in Heretic. If you enter the “all weapons and keys” cheat (IDKFA), you’ll receive a warning against cheating, andall your weapons will be removed, leaving you to face the army of undead with a stick.
Likewise, if you try to use the “god mode” cheat (IDDQD), the game will say, “Trying to cheat, eh? Now you die!“before killing you.
6Secret Level: Play As An AT-ST
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is an arcade-style flying and shooting game set between the events of A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. You play Luke Skywalker as he leads a squadron of X-Wing Fighters in dogfights against the Empire’s fleet.
Like many N64 games, Rogue Squadron had a Password screen on the main menu where you can input cheat codes. But if you type C-H-I-C-K-E-N, Luke ditches his fast, maneuverable X-Wing Fighterfor an AT-ST, a ground tank. In a game where all of your enemies are zipping through the air, there’s only so much you can do in a ground unit.
5F10 Cheats: Zero Lives
Commander Keen: Goodbye Galaxy
Commander Keen traverses across a multitude of platforming levels, taking on insidious enemies to save the galaxy. Fortunately, there is a slew of cheat codes to help you along the way. The original game came prepared with two cheats that gave you endless ammunition and immediately brought you to the post-game cut scene.
However, you’re able to enter debug mode by pressing A+2+ENTER to unlock a number of cheats that you can access by pressing F10 and then a letter.
Another F10 cheat to be wary of is No Clipping (F10+N), which makes Keen fall through all the level assets unless he grabs onto a ledge. If Keen falls through the top or bottom edges of the map, he will die. But if he reaches the left or right edges of the map, he will automatically win the level.
As you work your way down the alphabet, you’ll eventually make it to the letter Z. Upon entering the code,your lives are reduced down to zero, killing Keen unless he is in god mode (F10+G). On top of that, Zero Lives has the probability ofcrashing your game, living up to the game’s name, Goodbye Galaxy.
Sly Cooper was born into a long line of master thieves who steal from criminals ala Robin Hood style. The Cooper Family techniques and exploits were meticulously documented in the Thievius Raccoonus. After the book was stolen and Sly’s parents killed, Sly set off on his mission to reclaim his heritage.
GameShark brought back the Infinite Health cheat code for Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves.
As you can imagine, Sly’s quest puts him in some pretty sticky situations as he takes on the dark criminal world. Enter GameShark, cartridges that let you add cheat codes to your games. One of the cheat codes offered by GameShark for Sly 2 was pretty useful, seeing as itgave Sly Cooper Infinite Health. Unfortunately, that particular perk wasalso given to all of your enemies, making it impossible to beat the game.
Banjo-Kazooie is full of cheat codes. Some codes are given to Banjo and Kazooie in the game, while others are hidden in the game’s source code. These codes do everything from increasing the maximum number of feathers you can hold to turning Banjo into a washing machine.
However, Grunthilda the witch will have nothing to do with cheating. If you attempt to use a cheat codewhile in Grunty’s Lair, she’ll pop up on your screen, warning you against cheating. If you persist, she’ll eventually inform you with much flourish that yoursave data will be deleted.
You might be initially alarmed, but take a sigh of relief when you see that your precious save data appears to be safe. That is, until you save and exit the game. The next time you boot up Banjo-Kazooie your save data will be gone, forcing you to restart from the beginning.
Stanley is a worker in a nondescript office building where he spends his days monitoring data. But one day, Stanley’s computer screen goes black. Unsure of what to do, Stanley begins to explore the office building, accompanied by The Narrator.
The Serious Ending is only available in the HD Remake.
The Narrator does not condone cheating. Entering the sv_cheats 1 code willtransport you to the Serious Room, where The Narrator launches into a serious monologue about the seriousness of the situation. The Serious Room is where The Narrator has serious conversations. He takes it so seriously that he installed the most serious table he could find just to drive home how serious he really is.
He looked at many, many… hundreds, even… of tables until he found the perfect serious table to put in the Serious Room. This monologue will continue for about three minutes before seriously announcing that you will be stuck there for a billion-billion years. The only way to leave the Serious Room is torestart the game.
Tomb Raider took the world by storm when it was released in 1996. People were enamored with the gun-slinging archaeologist as she braved the deepest jungles, seeking ancient treasures. Or maybe people were just enthralled by her distinct features. Rumors began to spread that there was a secret cheat code in the original game’s files that would remove Lara’s garments.
The Exploding Lara cheat code still works in Tomb Raider 2 Remastered.
The rumor became so popular that the developers decided to troll their audience in Tomb Raider 2. Upon the game’s release, gamers eagerly tested the mythological cheat code from the first game, just to watch in horroras Lara Croft exploded. That’s one way to kill the mood.
