Summary
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawnis an ARPG that puts you in the shoes of a couple of God Killers, who use a variety of weapons, ranging from melee to magic to guns, to track down these Gods and take their revenge. This game is categorized as a soulslite, which means it’s a lot more forgiving than some of the popular souls titles out there, such as Elden Ring and Dark Souls, but it does take a lot of inspiration from them.
This article will go through some of the best games that fans of Flintlock will enjoy. Many of these games share similar aspects of gameplay to Flintlock, while others share a similar premise.
We may not be able to think of too many direct similarities betweenDragon’s Dogma 2and Flintlock, but its beautiful open world, in-depth vocation/skills system, and arcade-style and extremely fun combat that isn’t too challenging make the game worth trying out for anyone who loves to slay huge monsters and bosses.
Witha lack of proper fast travel, there’s a lot of exploration involved in this game, but the beautifully designed world makes it worth it and keeps you entertained throughout. The presence of AI companions, known as pawns, who help guide you through missions and give you company throughout your adventure is surprisingly one of the best parts of the game.
Steelrising may not have received a lot of love from the community and the critics, but it is still an interesting take on the ARPG genre that fans of Flintlock should enjoy. This game is set in analternate version of the French Revolutionand contains plenty of Steampunk elements that make its setting different from the classic historical setting we’ve seen hundreds of times.
Although the combat and the bosses in Steelrising aren’t anything too special, it’s the story and the interesting setting that make the game worth trying out, especially if you’re looking for something different fromyour usual fantasy game.
Similarly to Flintlock, another game that borrows the typical soulslike formula but adds its own twist to it is the Nioh series. Set in feudal Japan, Nioh 2 is arguablythe best game in the seriesand has enjoyable and expansive combat systems.
With so many different melee, magic, and ranged weapons, all of which come with different upgrades and skill trees, you will never get bored with the combat in Nioh 2. The presence of the soul core abilities as well as the burst counters, are also an interesting addition that makes Nioh 2’s combat so good.
Greedfall isn’t even close to being a Souls game, but its environment and weapons are what make it a great choice for fans of Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn. This game is set in a fantasy world in the 17th century and includesa lot of elements of a traditional flintlock fantasyin terms of the characters and the environments.
Unlike most other games on the list that have some amazing combat, it’s in ithe storytelling where Greedfall excels the most, as player choices play a huge role in the outcome of the game.
Devil May Cry 5 has one of the best combat systems we have ever seen and many games, including Flintlock, in its Reputation system, seem to take inspiration from it. The combat in this game is pretty simple but provides a lot of flexibility in terms of tools, combos, andits devil breaker attacks, which make this game one of the most exciting RPGs we have ever played..
The gothic art style and the visuals of this game are really beautiful and, similarly to Flintlock, there are quite a few sections where you will need to test out your platforming skills.
Elden Ring is one of the most iconic ARPGs of all time, known for its notorious difficulty and extremely challenging boss fights. Although it provides a much harder challenge than Flintlock in terms of its combat, Elden Ring also includes many platforming sections.
Combat is by far the best feature of Elden Ring and its melee as well as its ranged attacks are all so fun to play around with depending on the build you choose. Like most FromSoftware games, fightingthe same bosses over and over againuntill you defeat them is a big part of Elden Ring and while it might sound like a ridiculous prospect, it’s one of its best parts and constantly forces you to get better.
Remnant 2 is another game that shares plenty of similarities with Flintlock. Both of these are souls games that put a lot of emphasis on the storytelling aspect, and Remnant 2 especially excels in this category. The settings of both games are also quite similar, with there beinga mix of retro and futuristic elements, especially in the form of their weapons.
The gunplay animations and weapon mechanics of Remnant 2 are fun to play around with, and roaming the world while killing a variety of creatures in the most satisfying ways is part of what makes this game so great.
Bloodborne’s fast-paced and intense combat isone of the best we have seenand any fan of Flintlock is bound to enjoy it. Although there is no magic in Bloodborne, it has one of the most satisfying and well-made melee systems in any soulslike.
It also contains firearms like pistols, which can be used against unparryable attacks, just like in Flintlock. Apart from the amazing combat, the dark environment and world-building of Bloodborne are good enough reasons to check it out.
Although the core gameplay of God Of War may be completely different from Flintlock, there aren’t many gamesthat do ‘God-killing’ better than it. Just like Flintlock, God of War also takes you on a journey of taking revenge on many different Gods, including Zeus and Poseidon.
Some of the brutal combat sequences and finishers in Flintlock are also very reminiscent of God of War. If those reasons aren’t enough, you should try God of War: Ragnarok anyway, due to its amazing storyline, combat, and just because of how iconic it is.
Ashen is the first game that comes to mind when you think of games like Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn. This was the first title for A44 Games, and it includesplenty of features that would go on to be refined in Flintlock.
While the overall look of Flintlock is a lot different from Ashen, anyone who has played both games can easily figure out the subtle details that both share in terms of their storytelling and combat. Unlike Flintlock, you can also completely play through this game co-op, which adds another layer of teamplay and cooperation.
