Summary

Imagine a world where you could try out a skin or character before you buy it? After all, not all skins are created the same, and if you’re going to put down your hard-earned cash on a non-refundable purchase, then you want to be sure of it. In the world of live-service games, it seems like a dream, but it turns out, for a select group of people, it’s a reality.

That’s because those who were lucky enough to unlock X-Men’s Mystique inFortnitehave a walking demo on their hands. The shapeshifting mutant, who is sometimes a heroine and sometimes a villain, has the built-in ability to copy another player’s skin, giving the owner a chance to test outFortnite’s latest and greatest collaborations.

Mystique Was Incredibly Hard To Get Back In The Day

Taking to Reddit’s official Fortnite sub, a user showcased his Mystique copying the recently released Davy Jones skin as part ofthe Pirates of the Caribbean collaboration. Utilizing her “Shapeshifter” ability, which is hidden within the emotes, Mystique is able to copy the skin only after Jones has been downed. After that, the player assumes the role of Jones, complete with his unique weapons and appearance.

Take a look:

It’s a neat feature that still maintains its relevance to this day. That said, Mystique was incredibly hard to get and has never returned to the battle royale.During Chapter 2: Season 4, Mystique was available only after players reached Level 80 in the battle pass, which is no small feat. That particular season of Fortnite happened all the way back in August 2020, meaning anyone who has Mystique now has been playing Fortnite for several years.

Unfortunately, no other character to this point has ever had a similar ability, making Mystique truly one of a kind. Even when Himiko Toga made her way into Fortnite via the My Hero Academia set in Chapter 5: Season 2, she did not have her quirk copying ability.

That may have to do with the fact that in order for Toga to copy her opponents, she must first extract their blood.Fortnite has a T rating via the ESRB and no blood whatsoever, meaning Toga had no chance. Meanwhile, Mystique’s ability works at the molecular level without any blood.

However, those facts haven’t stopped fans from wishing that Mystique or some other copycat character would make their way into the game. “The fact no other skin has this ability will forever haunt me since I missed her,“one user lamented on Reddit. “Like even Midas with his gold touch gimmick has other skins you can buy to get it, but Mystique is NEVER coming back or getting an alternate version for a while.”

Cheers to whoever managed to hit Level 80 back in 2020 and is still playing Fortnite to this day. You’ll never have to buy another skin again.
