Summary

More and more video games are getting the honor of being immortalized asLegosets. Mario has an entire collection, Sonic’s Lego range continues to grow, and the relationship between Lego and Horizon that started as a tallneck set will evolve into a Lego video game viaLego Horizon Adventureslater this year.Final Fantasytechnically has its own Lego sets too. You might not be aware of them though as only two of them were ever made.

That’s not two designs that were mass-produced and sold, that’s two sets total, one of which was given to a fan and the other appears to be on display inFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthdirector Naoki Hamaguchi’s office. Final Fantasy 7 fans weregiven the chance to choose an iconic scenefrom the original game to be turned into a two-of-a-kind Lego set in 2023, and the initial meeting between Cloud and Aerith in the Sector 5 Slums church won.

Just because there’s only one set outside of the one that will likely never leave Hamaguchi’s office doesn’t mean you will never own it. You’re going to have to cough up a lot of gil to make it yours, though. Spotted byGamesRadar, the Final Fantasy 7 Lego set recently found a new owner after it waslisted on Heritage Auctions. However, the new owner had to part with $12,500 for it. And you thoughtthe upcoming Great Deku Tree setwas expensive.

$16,250 And There’s An Outside Chance This Lego Set Can Be Yours

The set is a perfect Lego recreation of Cloud and Aerith’s first meeting, toy brick versions of the characters standing inside of the beaten-up church with a bed of white and yellow flowers behind Aerith. You might think that after spending $12,500, the set will now be with its new owner for the foreseeable future. That’s not necessarily the case, though. The set’s listing now has a note revealing its new owner would be willing to listen to offers of $16,250 or more, but won’t necessarily accept them. My guess is this isn’t the last time this set will sell for big money, and we’ll likely see it change hands for even more money eventually.

It’s surprising that the relationship between Final Fantasy and Lego begins and ends with these two sets. That there have been no Final Fantasy sets sold en masse seems like a missed opportunity, and no Final Fantasy Lego video games is an even bigger one. Lego games don’t need to be more than a retelling of a story fans have already seen or played through already to generate a tonne of interest and success. Playing through Final Fantasy 7 in Lego sounds like a great idea to me, and I’m clearly not the only one with people willing to pay thousands for a FF7 Lego set.
