Summary
Now that the unofficial spoiler embargo forFinal Fantasy 14: Dawntrailis up for pretty much everything other than late game story content, theories about the game’s characters and events have slowly been making their way onto social media. There are quite a lot of interesting claims too, though one in particular appears to have gained a significant amount of traction, and it involves everyone’s favorite lovable goofball, Hildibrand.
While the embargo may be up, I’ll still warn you all that endgame spoilers are coming up. I’m not a monster.
Ever since our Warriors of Light came back from the First,Final Fantasy 14has not so subtlety been teasing the idea of certain characters having different versions of themselves across different Shards. In fact, Dawntrail hammers this home pretty hard during the “we’re all in this together” train montage, as the owners of the railways in Shaaolani are clearly alternate versions of the trolley gang from Shadowbringers.
That brings us to our beloved Hildibrand, asTwitter user Rehnamystereckons that Otis, the loyal knight of Alexandria, is actually a shard of our wacky inspector. That’s a pretty bold claim to make, though it’s an argument that is strengthened upon finding Otis in Living Memory, one of the expansion’s best areasthat lets us see Otis in his human form.
Final Fantasy 14 Players Are Convinced Dawntrail’s Otis Is A Shard Of Hildibrand
For starters, they look almost identical, although Otis has a few more scars than Hildibrand thanks to his job as a knight. Otis also has slicked back hair while Hildibrand has more of a pompadour going on, but both have very similar facial features and even share the same facial hair.
If you’re still not convinced, Rehnamyste then points out that they have very similar personalities, as both are incredibly stupid, but have a heart of gold and an unrivaled sense of justice. It’s also pointed out byTwitter user MnemoSynestralthat while Otis is deeply protective of a Final Fantasy 9-inspired character in Queen Sphene (obviously Garnet), Hildibrand is also very protective of another Final Fantasy 9-inspired character in Gigi (obviously Vivi).
To top it all off, Rehnamyste then points out that the music that plays when players first meet Otis is the same track that is used a bunch of times during the various Hildibrand quest lines. Put all of this together, and we have just found a shard of our favorite inspector. Now, we just need the two of them to meet.
