Summary
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrailhas been in our hands for just under a week (even less if you didn’t have early access), and fans aregetting stuck into the MSQand playing aroundwith the new Pictomancer and Viper jobs. Square Enix has been keeping a close eye on launch, mostly making sure the servers can handle the weight of new and returning players, and it has now revealed the job adjustments it feels like it needs to make in Patch 7.01 and beyond.
Unfortunately,Square Enixdoesn’t appear to be on the same wavelength as the game’s community, as there has been significant backlash over planned changes to reduce the “busyness” of Viper. In a post on the official Final Fantasy 14 website, Square Enix claims to have received feedback claiming that Viper was too complicated, and that includes “the easing of directional requirements” and changes to several actions.
That may seem fine on the surface, but many fans actually seem quite upset about the changes on social media. In the repliesunderneath the Final Fantasy 14 Twitter account’s announcement, you can find several people begging Square Enix not to change how Viper works at the moment, claiming that there’s “nothing wrong with it” and worried that Viper is now about to “become a snoozefest.”
Final Fantasy 14 Has Upset Fans As Dawntrail Is Already Making Viper Simpler
While we’re yet to see the extent of the changes, you can kind of see why people are upset that Square Enix is once again simplifying a job that has even the smallest amount of complexity. Viper has a pretty simple rotation compared to the rest of the melee DPS jobs, it doesn’t have a burst window for you to work around, and while the positionals can take some getting used to, they become muscle memory after not too long. It feels like making that simpler will just make Viper less fun to play.
Thankfully, Pictomancer has emerged largely unscathed, though Patch 7.01 will remove the ability to manually disable the effects of Subtractive Palette and Aetherhues. We won’t get to experience exactly how Viper feels until Square Enix has finished tinkering with it in Patch 7.05, but it’s safe to say that those currently enjoying the job aren’t best pleased.
