Summary
Fashion is pretty importantin theFinal Fantasy 14community, as you’re given countless options to customize your characters and their outfits in whatever way you want. People were just as excited aboutDawntrailadding more ways to dye clothes as they were withwhole new jobs and races. Getting your boots, gloves, pants, chestpiece, and hat just right is of paramount importance to some people, but those that choose to play as Viera and Hrothgars have been unable to accessorize like the rest of the community for quite some time.
Having both been introduced late in Shadowbringers, the Viera and Hrothgar races have had a tough time of it when it comes topicking out anything decent to wear on their heads. Due to their ears (arguably the Viera’s most defining feature) being cut off by almost every single hat/helmet in the game, many players feel forced to wear masks and headgear to keep their ears on full display. It’s also a little strange from a realistic standpoint to imagine them crushing their ears with helmets and hats.
Many have been calling for Square Enix to just have ears clip through hats and helmets as an easy solution, and the introduction of female Hrothgar in Dawntrail had some hoping that the issue may have finally been addressed, but many are grabbing new headwear earned in Dawntrail only to find their ears are being crushed yet again. Having put up with this for almost half a decade, tempers are starting to boil over.
Final Fantasy 14 Fans Are Upset With Dawntrail’s Viera And Hrothgar Hat Options
Twitter user Sean Gardneris one such fan that has just about had enough, and thinks that Square Enix fixing this problem “should be a priority,” as it’s “goofy to have two races that can’t use a major armor slot.” The sentiment is shared among many of the other Final Fantasy 14 fans in the replies to Gardner’s comment, with user Lykaios saying it’s an “extra kick in the teeth” for Red Mage Viera’s due tothe race’s iconic design in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
It’s a similar story on Reddit too, as user Rechington described the entire farce as “a psyop at this point,” confused as to how inconsistent Square Enix is about letting Viera and Hrothgar ears stick through their hats. As an Elezen player (yes, we exist), it does feel a little odd that Elezen ears are often accounted for in helmets and hats, yet Viera and Hrothgar are still waiting for some consistency. Hopefully, now the graphics update and Dawntrail are out, we will start seeing some improvements soon.
