Summary

If you’ve only just jumped intoFinal Fantasy 14with the release ofDawntrail, chances are you’ll beunfamiliar with S-Rank Hunts. Every expansion, a set of powerful monsters appear in each area that can only realistically be taken down by a team of players, though getting some of them to actually appear is a challenge in itself.

Unlike most monsters in Final Fantasy 14, some of these S-Rank hunts require very specific circumstances to spawn, some of which are so ludicrous that teams of players have adopted bizarre rituals on the off-chance that Square Enix is cheeky and does it again.

Twitter user NymeiasWard put together a handy listof just a few of the bizarre things players have had to do to get these things to spawn in the past, and the highlights include dying while wearing ARR armor in Endwalker, discarding over 50 fish meal, and standing around the spawn point with 9 other players while you all have a specific minion out.

Dawntrail has another of these tricky S-Rank monsters that refused to show up for a few days called Kirlirger the Abhorrent (thanksPC Gamer), an evil Yok Huy warrior that spawns in Urqopacha who was added in the game’s 7.05 patch on July 30. With only a reference to him being sneaky and avoiding a fair fight as a hint, Final Fantasy 14 players began attempting to figure out exactly what this guy’s spawn conditions were.

Final Fantasy 14 Players Spent Three Days Trying To Get Kirlirger The Abhorrent To Spawn

Over the course of three whole days, players began dressing up as merchants, wearing sunglasses, riding alpacas, and killing every mob within eyesight to try and get Kirlirger to spawn, to no avail. It was speculated that even more absurd methods may be required, as people begantalking to NPCs that may as well be brick walls, running around naked, andsummoning an army of tigers.

After all seemed lost, it turned out that all players had to do was wait, as Kirlirger’s spawn conditions were just weather-related. It seems as though the weather needs to be foggy alongside a new moon for Kirlirger to appear, which is a little bit dull considering everything that the community was actually trying, but at least the mystery is solved.
