Summary
Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrailis finally out of early access and available for everyone to play, and while we’ve only had our hands on the expansion for a few days, the consensus among fans seems to be that it’s okay. That’s to be expected really, given that we don’t have the high-stakes and character arc finales that were included in Endwalker, though Dawntrail’s focus on Wuk Lamat rather than the Warrior of Light hasn’t helped that much.
Dawntrail dropped to Mixed user reviews on Steam earlier this week, and fans have been casting their minds back to when a new Final Fantasy 14 expansion was released to such middling reception. That has brought us to today’s topic of conversation, with Stormblood once again in the firing line, as fans are nowarguing about the quality of the seven year old expansion.
A lot of the Dawntrail comparisons have come about due to the aforementioned Wuk Lamat, and her similarities to Stormblood character Lyse Hext. Both characters have come under criticism for their personalities, and both of their expansions focus on them as the main character, leaving the Warrior of Light as more of a side character. Stormblood less so than Dawntrail, but you can very easily find Wuk Lamat being called Lyse 2.0 among the community and negative Steam reviews.
Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail’s Mixed Reviews Has Fans Arguing About Stormblood Again
Of course, this has brought out the Stormblood defenders, claiming that the MSQ for the expansion is overly hated for no reason, and that the only reason it’s looked down on is being it’s wedged between the excellent Heavensward and Shadowbringers expansions. While I can personally see that argument, there is an argument to be made that Stormblood’s more action-focused story just didn’t jive too well with the community.
You also have the more optimistic side of the community, though they typically agree that Dawntrail’s MSQ is severely lacking. It’s been pointed out that even though many consider Stormblood to have a similarly lackluster story, Yoshi-P and the team made up for it with excellent post-expansion content such as Alliance Raids and eight-man raids.
The hope is that Dawntrail will be the same, and Yoshi-P’s recent statement aboutregretting making Final Fantasy 14 too easyhas fans rubbing ther hands about whatever horrible abomination Square Enix has cooking.
