Summary
Final Fantasy 14fans have had to suspend their disbelief somewhat when it comes to the passage of time. Due to the game being an MMO, and the stature of both Alphinaud and Alisaie, it’s been tricky for Yoshi-P and the team to realistically portray the amount of time that passes between expansions. It’s been stated in the past that the amount of time that has passed since A Realm Reborn is for players to interpret for themselves, but it’s widely believed thatonly a year passed between the start of ARR up to Endwalker.
We may have been around the Scions for over a decade, but only a year has passed for them, and thatmakes their ages somewhat difficult to believe. Only a couple of Scions are as old as they appear, with both Thancred and Estinien being the oldest of the group at 32 and the twins being 16, while the rest all have ages that are questionable at best. There is no way that Lyse is older than Y’shtola, and Paplymo is 42. I refuse to believe it.
However, there’s one Scion whose age is still baffling to this day,and thanks to Dawntrail, a lot of people are just finding out that the adorable yet mature Krile Baldesion is somehow only 22 years old. Due to her being one of Dawntrail’s more prominent characters -besides Wuk Lamat- having much more of a role in the story than the other Scions, we’re getting a lot more details about her early life and backstory.
We’re heading into spoiler territory now, so duck out now if you don’t want to know about late-game plot beats.
Dawntrail Has Everyone Baffled At Krile’s Age
During the story, we find out that Krile was born in a different reflection from the Source, but was dropped there as a baby by her birth parents to stop sinister forces from experimenting on her due to her powers of the Echo. It’s when Galuf discovered the Golden City with Dawnservant Galool Ja Ja, twenty years before the events of Dawntrail, that she was handed over, as the story lets everyone know for the first time that Krile is roughly 21 to 22 years old.
Twitter account FF14 Fun Factstook this opportunity to make a post about Krile, mentioning her age specifically, and it seems like a lot of people had absolutely no idea that Krile was still in her early twenties. You have various peoplethinking she was in her thirties, some amazed by the fact and some in complete denial, while others think the surprise around her ageis down to her English voice actor.
It’s not that much of a shock that people think she’s older than she is, especially due to her mature demeanor, intelligence, and older voice actor thrown into the mix. Check outa scene of hers with the Japanese voice actor, and you can kind of see how 22 matches her looks. Now if you’ll excuse me, I just found out I’m almost the same age as Urianger, and I need to go lie down for a bit.
