Summary

When you first log into Dawntrail, you might be tempted to just rush head first into the continuation of the long-running story and narrative ofFinal Fantasy 14, or even plow through as fast as you’re able to to get to the endgame in order toprepare for the challenging extreme trials and savage raids.

While it does sound like a good idea at first, you might forget to take advantage of certain systems or opportunities that will make your grind a little bit less grindy or annoying. If you make sure to take your time and prepare carefully with these tips, your trip to Tural will be smooth sailing!

8Perform Inventory Management

That’s A Lot Of Stuff You’ve Got There

Probably the very first thing you should do when you log in is take a good look at your inventory and do some spring-cleaning. You will be picking up tons of items and loot during your stay in Tural and you will need to ensure you can carry it all.

Yes, the four full stacks of hard-boiled eggs you eat for the experience bonus and all the old crafting materials you gathered are nice, but probably not necessary. Do yourself a favor and store or sell anything you won’t need immediately before your new adventure.

7Update Your Equipment

Make Sure Your Spears Are Pointy Enough

If you’re a returning player, or someone who doesn’t play consistently, you might find your gear too weak and your item level too low for the beginning of Dawntrail (or even the patch content of Endwalker). Make sure to update your outdated gear as soon as you may.

Whether you craft it, buy it, or exchange tomestones for it,new gear is relatively easy to obtain. If you have an abundance of Tomestones of Poetics, you’re able to obtain item level 660 gear at Radz-at-Han, which will be the path of least resistance.

6Re-familiarize Yourself With Your Job

Pressing Buttons New And Old

With the launch of every expansion, there are usually various major or minor changes made to all jobs that you will need to be aware of. Read your tooltips and practice your skills in order not to be caught off guard in the heat of battle.

Find a training dummy and take a few whacks at it, practicing your rotation and learning all the new nuances to your job of choice. As you gain your new abilities between levels 90-100, you will have more context of how your whole kit works together.

5Use Armor Coffers

All This Unclaimed Gear

As you begin to quest around Tural, you will be handed armor coffers at regular intervals. These chests will contain relevant gear for the part of the story you’re in and can be incredibly helpful if you find yourself lacking the item level required for certain duties.

When you get given one of these coffers, don’t be afraid to use them if needed. Depending on the job you are, the armor you receive will be usable for said job. Make sure to open these chests only when you are on the appropriate job, and you won’t have any trouble with item level for the main scenario quest.

4Attune To All Aethernet Shards

Makin' Your Way Round Town

Tuliyollal is a vibrant and exciting city to explore, filled with shops, vistas, and things to do. One thing you don’t want to be doing, however, is walking everywhere. The city is quite big and travel will take up a lot of your time if you attempt to simply run around town.

Make sure to attune to all the aethernet shards around Tuliyollal once you arrive there, as being able to teleport around the city is incredibly helpful and time-saving. Attuning to aetherytes should just become part of your routine whenever you go somewhere new.

3Gather Aether Currents

Do You Believe You Can Fly?

Another thing to add to your “do this in every expansion” list is to take the time and explore each map thoroughly. While you are exploring and using your trusty Aether Compass, you will come across Aether Currents, little green clouds of aether that will enable you to fly once all of them are collected.

There are a handful of them scattered across every map and finding them can be tedious, especially if you haven’t unlocked increaseed mount speed for the area. You will be thankful you spent the time searching, however, as flying is very convenient and is the quickest way to get around an area aside from teleporting. Make sure to do your Aether Current quests too, and you will be golden.

2Exchange Old Tomestones

Out With The Old, In With The Older

Every expansion launch, the rotation of accepted tomestones for current gear is changed. New gear is obtainable in the new areas for a new tomestone currency, and any older gear can be acquired with Tomestones of Poetics from then on.

Make sure to take your no longer usable tomestones to the vendor in Mor Dhona and trade them in for poetics as soon as you can. Once they are traded in, you can use your new poetics to obtain older gear for other jobs you might want to level up.

1Exchange Crafter And Gatherer Scrips

For the Crafting and Gathering Connoisseur

Just like with tomestones, crafting and gathering scrips have also been updated and the older ones are no longer redeemable for items. Unlike tomestones, scrips are generally harder to come by and should absolutely be exchanged before you forget at the scrip vendor in Mor Dhona.

If you gather or craft, scrips are a currency you will need to farm a lot of in order toaccess the most advanced crafting recipes or gathering locations. Any scrips you can get will be incredibly valuable to you, so don’t forget to make the exchange as soon as you can and get back to making millions of gil on the market board.
