Summary
It’s a widely held belief thatFallout: New Vegasis the best game in the series (of the modern titles anyway), and while there’s plenty of love out there for the likes of Fallout 3, 4, and 76, we still haven’t had a Fallout game that’s quite matched up to Obsidian’s first crack at the series. A sequel to Fallout: New Vegas was the first thing on the minds of people when Microsoft acquired Bethesda and Obsidian, and people are still holding out hope to this day.
Fallout: New Vegas director Josh Swayer isoften asked by fans about potential sequels, but he was askedin his most recent Q&A videowhether he’d ever be down to make another game in the series in the future (thanks Kotaku). While Sawyer never directly says he wants to, he does say that he’d make another Fallout game at some point as long asBethesdaandMicrosoftmeet one key condition.

In the video embedded above (at the 30 minute and 30 second mark), Sawyer says that his response to Microsoft or Bethesda asking him to lead another Fallout game would be “sure,” but that he would have a number of questions to ask about the project’s potential, namely how much freedom he would have within the Fallout universe.
Fallout: New Vegas' Director Is Open To Returning To The Series… As Long As There Aren’t Many Constraints
“I think that with any IP, especially one I’ve worked with before, the question is what do I want to do this time that I wasn’t able to do last time," says Sawyer. “And if those constraints are just really constraining, then it’s not very appealing because who wants to work on something where the one thing they want to explore is not possible to explore?”
He goes on to say that he loves the Fallout series and believes “a ton of stories that can be told in there,” though we’ll have to wait and see whether Sawyer himself will tell one. His comments definitely make it possible, so all Microsoft needs to do is come knocking and offer up a plate load of creative freedom. Something tells me that might be wishful thinking though.
