Summary

Fallout: London, a fan game that’s launching as a mod forFallout 4, only has a PC launch planned right now. However, the devs are open to porting it to console too, they’d just needBethesda’s help.

This is according to Fallout: London project lead Dean Carter, who discussed this in an interview withMetro. Here, Carter says that he’d need to be able to speak to one of the “decision makers” at Bethesda, and if he could, a console release of the Fallout: London mod would be possible.

Carter raises this point when discussing how “frustrating” development has been in recent months afterBethesda failed to warn them about Fallout 4’s next-gen update. He does have a contact at the studio but describes them as a “clearly overworked” community manager.

“What we want is to speak to a decision-maker,” says Carter. “If we could make [Fallout: London] a standalone thing with their permission, that means that people on gaming consoles could use it, which they currently can’t.”

Fallout: London will require you to downgrade your version of Fallout 4 to remove the next-gen update. Epic Games Store doesn’t allow you to do this, so the mod will only be available to those who purchased Fallout 4 through Steam and GOG.

Carter has previously explained thatFallout: London is simply too big to launch on console, despiteXboxandPlayStationversions of Fallout 4 having a limited selection of mods that are available to install. It seems like Bethesda would have to make an exception to the limits on console mods if it wants Fallout: London on these platforms.

In fact, Fallout: London was so big that the usual home of PC mods,Nexus Mods, was unable to host it. Instead,GOG had to rush to the rescue and agree to host it via its own storefront, like an official game release. This isn’t too surprising though, as Fallout: London is an entirely new game made using Fallout 4. Nexus has hosted fan games made usingFallout: New Vegasas a framework before, but it seems that this would just be too bulky for the site.

Fallout: London is expected to launch soon, following its delay earlier this year.
