Summary

Fallout 76devs have “discussed” plans for more map expansions, following on fromthe Skyline Valley update. This comes as devs say fans have responded well to the first map expansion, and are eager to see more of what Appalachia has to offer.

This comes from Fallout 76’s creative director, Jon Rush, whosat down for an interview with TheGamer at Gamescomthis year. Here, Rush gave us an idea of what to expect from Fallout 76 updates going forward, strongly suggesting that we’ll get more map expansions in the future.

Fallout 76 Creative Director Discusses Future Plans For Map Expansions

“Looking at Skyline Valley, I think a big reason that resonated so well with players was because it stayed in Appalachia," says Rush. “Our players love playing on that map, so mutating the map, so to speak, gave them the opportunity to experience more things on that map, to build in more places, to explore more places. [It] gave us a chance to tell a story.”

He continues, explaining how this will influence future updates. “Any updates that can offer that, any ideas for updates that can give that to players are certainly welcome," he says. “So region expansions, like Skyline Valley. Yeah, absolutely, they’ve been discussed. Specific details I can’t go into, but they’ve definitely been discussed.”

With this in mind, we shouldn’t expect Fallout 76 to take us to the other side of the country anytime soon. It seems like the team wants to focus on Appalachia more than anything else, especially in response to Skyline Valley.

This wasn’t all Rush had to share about Fallout 76. Elsewhere in the interview, the creative director also revealed that after playable ghouls are added in early 2025, future expansions will react to this, withNPCs treating ghoul characters differently than they would treat humans. While we don’t know what this will look like in practice, expect human NPCs to be a little less friendly with you, if the mainline games are anything to go by.

WHERE TO PLAY

Taking the Fallout series into the MMO space, Fallout 76 is a prequel to the mainline games. You’ll have to traverse the massive open world of Appalachia to build bases, survive, and grow stronger.
