With 169 mascot bots to rescue,Astro Bothas a lot of cameos. There are some iconicPlayStationheroes, some titans of the modern era, some forgotten classics, and some deep cuts straight out of what an MLB: The Show fan might call left field. We’ll take you on a whistle stop tour of every single character in the game, listed in the order the game numbers them in the Crash Site’s funky little bot dex known as the A5O81 (or Asobi, as in Team), itself a reference to the Japan only peripheral the PocketStation. If you think that’s neat, this is the list for you.
1-9 God of War Cast
There are severalGod of Warcharacters in the game, so we’ve gathered them all here for a convenient photo. In order they appear in the A5O81, we have: Kratos, Atreus, Mimir, Freya, Brok, Sindri, Laufey, Thor, and Thrud.Hit Thor in the face to get the Thaw, God of Thunder! Trophy. And because it’s fun.
10 Kena, Kena Bridge of Spirits
From the 2021 Indie Game of the Year at The Game Awards,Kenasits in the map and meditates peacefully… until you hit her, when all of her precious rot buddies spill out.
11-12 Ratchet and Rivet, Ratchet & Clank
One of Astro Bot’s biggest influences makes an appearance here, and Clank is unlockable from the gatcha machine so he has this faithful companion by his side at all times. Speaking of, the latest addition toRatchet & Clank’scast also appears in bot form. Unfortunately Kit, her answer to Clank, is nowhere to be seen. Maybe in the sequel?
13 Bean, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
The viral sensation we all played when we were locked inside with nothing better to do is a major part of modern gaming history, andFall Guysis celebrated with a cameo in PlayStation’s hall of fame here.
14 Jin Sakai, Ghost of Tsushima
Perhaps the most recent new series that could stake a claim at being one of PlayStation’s icons,Ghost of Tsushimawas always going to make the cut. Jin can be found resting in a hot spring, unless you attack him, then he leaps out and dons his armour, ready to strike.
15 Sam Porter Bridges, Death Stranding
Kojima’s existential postie is here with a mountain of crates on his back, and that weird little baby thing still strapped to his chest. Of course,Death Stranding’sstar not the only Kojima hero at this PlayStation party, but more on those later.
16 Ash, Concrete Genie
The first relatively deep cut of the list, though they do get deeper from here. This motion based PS4 game had you draw figures on the wall to protect the town and solve puzzles. Unfortunately, developer Pixelopus shut down a few years later, withConcrete Genieits final game. In Astro Bot, its memory lives on.
17 Deacon St. John, Days Gone
Days Goneis an oddly divisive game that is beloved by a strong core fanbase who often feel it gets looked down on compared to Sony’s biggest hits. In Astro Bot, the game is in good company as a notable part of modern Sony history. Now, if it can just get a sequel…
18 Connor, Detroit: Become Human
Speaking of oddly divisive games, this paranoid android detective is by far the most recognisable character from Quantic Dream’s robotic racial parableDetroit: Become Human. Here, he has his trusty fish, which seems less iconic than his gun, but maybe it’s for the best that Connor is unarmed in this one.
19 Quill, Moss
Our first (but not our last) VR hero is Quill the mouse fromMoss. Eagerly captivated by her book, reacting with surprise, fright, delight, and dismay as she reads, Astro does the only sensible thing - bashes into her so she drops it and gets very angry. It’s cool to see VR represented here, especially as PS VR2 has lacked a bit of support since its launch.
