The Mystery Of The Chair

In thepatch notesfor the recent Elden Ring update,FromSoftwareshared details on a wide variety of changes coming to the game. They buffed a bunch ofspellsandincantations, changed a handful of weapons, and madeSpirit Ashesharder to stagger. One thing that the visionary developers didn’t detail, however, was the addition of a random chair inRellana, Twin Moon Knight’s boss room.

The chair, a similar model to one found all overThe Lands Between, is found at the back of the arena, next to a pile of melted candles.

It’s a bizarre addition and one thathas tomean something, right? Everything in Elden Ring is there for a reason. Each item has a description that adds to the world-building, every monument is placed to mean something, and every location adds to the wider story.

While it’s probably not that deep, it is interesting that the team consciously made the decision to go in and add a random chair to a fairly important room, causing a furore within the community.

What Could It Mean?

Many of the comments on Reddit surrounding the chair were more whimsical in nature rather than focused on the lore, with players saying, “Imagine if every update results in exactly one more chair being added”, “Here to say that I beat Rellana before they added the chair”, and “THANK GOD, when I fought her I couldn’t stop thinking ‘this room looks like it’s missing a chair’.”

However, there were some people trying to find genuine explanations for the addition. “There are also chairs like this in theCaria Manor, inLorreta’sarena. It probably shows Rellana’s place as a (former?) important member of the Carian family,“one player said.

Although, in the grand scheme of things, it’s unlikely to mean anything, we’ve reached out to FromSoftware to see if they’re willing to share the details.
