Summary

Waterfalls in video games used to be a magical thing. You knew that if you saw water rapidly flowing over the edge of a cliff, there would usually be some kind of treasure or secret behind it. Games likeThe Legend of Zelda,Mario Kart, andTomb Raiderwere all masters in the art of waterfall secrets.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, while sublime in many areas, unfortunately, doesn’t reach the lofty heights of some of the games that came before it when it comes to waterfalls. This has, quite rightly, led to upset among the game’s rabid fan base.

“I Checked Every. Single. Waterfall In The DLC. 1/10 Waterfall Experience”

Shadow of the Erdtree adds a bunch of new Waterfalls toElden Ring. And, in a Reddit thread simply titled “Is Miyazaki stupid?” Players took turns complaining about the lack of secrets behind them.

The original poster started the discussion in style, saying, “Someone should really tellFromSoftthat waterfalls are supposed to have SECRETS under them. CAVES, ITEMS, TREASURES, PASSAGES, CREATURES, COOL LITTLE EASTER EGGS,” adding “Not just a wall. How do they not know this? Are they stupid?”

For one player, the lack of waterfall secrets made for a “1/10 waterfall experience”, with a singleTalismanhidden behind one, allowing the game to even score a single point in the department. Another player said that the waterfalls are created by “the tears of disappointed explorers.”

While many lamented the lack of waterfall secrets, one player used it as a reason to praiseDark Souls 2, saying it’s great because “There was stuff behind the waterfall.” In light of this information, one “DS2 hater” said they may have toreconsider their stance on the game.

Despite much distaste among the Elden Ring faithful, one player remained level-headed andtried to applylogic to proceedings, saying, “If there was a secret behind EVERY waterfall, that’s not a secret anymore.” Another playerconcurred with this logic, adding, “Do you guys want something behind every single waterfall or what am I missing?”
