Summary
With the recent release ofShadow of the Erdree, theElden Ringcommunity has been frenzied into a series of debates.
They’vediscussed the most evil Demigod in the game, debated the weakest boss weapons, and now are arguing about what is the worst gimmick to have been added to theotherwise fantastic DLC.

“It was an amusing idea for like the first two times”
Apost on Reddithas gained serious traction, which has caused the over-analyzation of the new gimmicks in Elden Ring’s DLC. Titled “The dumbest ‘gimmick’ of the DLC/ER,” one player shared their hatred for the game’ssealed spiritsprings.
Usually open for players to reach otherwise impossible locations with Torrent, thesesealed spiritspringsare locked, with players needing to find an accompanying rock pile to unlock it.

Agreeing with the OP,one player saidthey “didn’t understand that concept,” withanother addingthey were “just super unnecessary”.
While many agreed with the opinion that these springs are a pain, others very much didn’t. “It’s so inoffensive I don’t see the problem”, preachedone commenter, withanother saying, “Nah, this gimmick was fine. Adding a little extra exploration wasn’t a bad thing”.

Some players actually felt acompletely opposite reactionto the original poster, stating that FromSoftware “Could’ve been more creative with it” rather than just hiding the counterpart “20 yards away along the cliff.”
Wonksbonks probably ended the debate, though, when they said, “I can’t believe that so many people are annoyed by these, when ‘Door doesn’t open from this side’ and ‘Door is locked’ has existed since the beginning ofFromSoftgames.”
“I’d search for a million spirit rock piles before fighting one more damn Furnace Golem”
It’s clear that sealed spiritsprings caused a split reaction, but one thing that almost certainly didn’t was the game’sFurnace Golems.
“So much health, so much damage, so many AoE moves, and for what,” was a common opinionshared by the community. Some Elden Ringexpertswere quick to point out that “they are not so tough”, withone player retortingthat “It’s not that they’re impossible… It’s that they’re f***ing boring”. Another player then went one step further, calling them"the most boring experience in the entire DLC".
Arguably, a representative for 90% of the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdree playerbasesimply and diplomatically commented, “You guys are fighting them?” Given that the brutes are fairly common, it speaks volumes that players are choosing to ignore them rather than partake in a long, cumbersome slog.
The “dumbest gimmick was giving bosses instant aggro”
Way more frustrating than both the sealed spiritsprings and Furnace Golems is the fact that Shadow of the Erdtree bosses often attackthe secondyou walk through the fog.
“They [FromSoft] pretty much gave a massive middle finger to anybody who uses summons”,SaintTrill said in the Reddit thread.
WithRellana, for example, one player noted that"summons were dying before they even made it into the arena" because of the “blue arcs from her sword as an opening move”. Rellana wasn’t the only culprit either, withanother player comedically saying"The number of times I saw the health bar of a fellow jolly co-operator get cut down moments after they walked through the fog on theDivine Lion fight."
Let us know in the thread below which of the new gimmicks annoyed you most.
