Summary

Typically, you don’t want a high equipment load inElden Ringbecause you’ll ‘fat roll’ which means that you dodge much slower, ergo you’re more likely to get hit by attacks. But for some bizarre reason, fat rolling works exceptionally well against Consort Radahn, the final and arguably hardest bossinShadow of the Erdtree.

Reddit user Mathishian29 beat Radahn in just under two minuteswithout getting hitall while fat rolling, having even more success than the most agile of players who keep getting caught in the unbelievably wide reach of his many, many attacks.

As one commenter pointed out, “The fat roll animation is long enough to avoid the ‘undodgeable’ attack simply because the entire character is physically below the swings, even though you have no I-frames at this point.” You don’t need to fat roll to get physically below these attacks, however, as you can also use certain emotes. But it’s definitely the less fiddly option.

You Can Even Avoid Follow-Up Attacks Designed To Catch You Mid-Roll

Consort Radahn is one of FromSoftware’s most punishing boss fights. Even if you dodge out of the way of his moves, he has follow-up attacks designed to catch you mid-roll. A good way to get past this is to master the Deflect Hardtear, which essentiallyturns boss fights into Sekiro duels. But fat rolling saves you from these combos altogether.

Maybe no one was stupid enough to try to fat roll him during testing.

One such attack sees Radahn swipe at you twice after stomping and using an overhead swing, which usually catches players even if they manage to roll. With a heavy equipment load, Mathishian29 was able to stay unscathed; “It’s actually better than normal/light rolls for that specific attack, I can get two hits on him with fat rolls, but only one hit with the other two”.

So, if you’re struggling with Radahn, maybe a heavy set of armour is the way to go. Even if you’re sacrificing alotof mobility.
