Elden Ring fans have been talking about what they think the worst spell in the DLC is, withReddit user Choice_Car_7934 making a strong opening case for Rotten Butterflies. Even though you get the incantation bytrading in the Remembrance of a certain boss, it is nowhere near as potent as its flashy aesthetic makes it appear, and does middling damage for far too much FP. Another user called PacosBigTacos even admits that it “might as well be an emote for me.”
Rotten Butterflies has plenty of competition though, and another very popular shout for Shadow of the Erdtree’s worst spell is Rain of Fire, which Reddit user AwryShark claims to have seen “barely chunking a wild deer.” It’s also made worse by the fact that base Elden Ring has an incantation called Founding Rain of Stars which is almost the same thing and just as bad, and there are some people that even think the spell is bugged.
Minor Erdtree and Midra’s Flame of Frenzy Are Also Named Shadow Of The Erdtree’s Worst Spells
While Rotten Butterflies and Rain of Fire are duking it out for first place, there are a bunch of other rather underwhelming spells that Elden Ring fans have issues with, one of them being Minor Erdtree. Sure, it has major connections to the game’s lore, but as an actual incantation to use in battle, Reddit user TinyPigdenofDoom just thinks it’s a fancy version of Warmth that requires way too much FP to use. It’s not particularly impressive either, since Melina can summon a bigger one, as user Careless-Ad-20 calls ours “a bush at best.”
Midra’s Flame of Frenzy is also an incantation mentioned by TinyPigdenofDoom and a couple of other users, mainly because of its long cast time, FP cost, and the fact that it inflicts the user with frenzy before its true potential comes out. Another user called Lunesy is also pretty disappointed that it functions quite similarly to other frenzy incantations, despite all the fancy moves Midra himself uses in the fight against you.
It’s also quite telling that all of these inclusions are incantations, with barely a single sorcery mentioned in the entire thread. I guess that goes to show you how much of a mixed bag it can be using incantations. Thankfully, my big brain frost mage is eating well, so I’ll be pounding enemies into the dirt with my Ranni and Rellana two punch combo.
