Summary

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtreecontains many, many bosses. Some of them are super consequential to the story, and others simply serve as a challenge for the tarnished. Occasionally, though, these major bosses are conspicuously without any dialogue. Two of these bosses, both of which debuted in Shadow of the Erdtree, areRellana, Twin Moon Knight, andRomina, Saint of the Bud.

Since the DLC launched, the absence of voice lines for these two characters has been a contentious point for manyElden Ringplayers. However, there may be more to the story than that they just didn’t have any written, as a new video reportedly shows that both Rellana and Romina had dialogue that was subsequently cut from the game.

“Children Of The Tower, Butterflies Take Wing”

Rellana is one of Shadow of the Erdtree’s first major skill checks. She dual-wields light greatswords, which can be imbued with bothGlintstoneand fire, specificallyMessmer’s Flame. Related toRennala, Queen of the Full Moon, Rellana is a core component in Elden Ring lore and the history of theLands BetweenandLand of Shadows, so the exclusion of any dialogue for her was a baffling one.

Inthis new video, originally posted on the Chinese video-sharing site BiliBili, Rellana reportedly has a single voice line, ushering the words “Rise, Twin Moons”, a reference to both her title, and the spell that she casts in the second phase of her battle.

Unlike Rellana, Romina, Saint of the Bud can’t be avoided during a playthrough of Shadow of the Erdtree, and is one of the game’s final mandatory bosses.

Part scorpion, part butterfly, part centipede, and part person, Romina is a sight to behold. Fought in an ominous pink, Scarlet Rot-filled battleground, she’s a major challenge and another strange choice to exclude any dialogue from. Especially given what she is guarding.

As shown in this new video, Romina was reportedly set to bellow out, “Children of the Tower, butterflies take wing.”

We’ve reached out toFromSoftwareto see if they can verify why the dialogue was cut.
