Summary
Dune: Awakeningjust got another trailer as part of Gamescom’s Opening Night Live. This gives us a better look at the MMO, showing off some of its gameplay mechanics and the unique setting.
Most importantly though, it confirms that the MMO will launch on PC in early 2025. The console release will come after this, although it has not been narrowed down just yet.

New Dune: Awakening Trailer Revealed At Gamescom
As well as narrowing down the release date, the latest Dune: Awakening preview gives us a look at combat and character creation. Naturally, we also see the sandworms in action, showing us how we’ll encounter them in the MMO.
Dune: Awakening takes place in analternate history in which Paul Atreides was never born, as Jessica and Leto have a daughter instead. While this will almost definitely change the political landscape of the setting, plenty of staples of Dune have already been seen in the trailers.
As a survival MMO, surviving the elements will be crucial, just as you’d expect from a game based on the Dune series. To this end, you’ll need to wear a stillsuit to maintain your water supply, and hunker down to avoid sandstorms. However, it sounds like sandworms will be the most menacing threat we face, as the devs have previously said they will be able tokill players in “seconds”.
Unfortunately,we won’t be able to ride the worm from launch. This was confirmed earlier this year, with the devs revealing that more aspects of Fremen culture will be added in a post-launch update. This is because the devs originally planned to launch the game before Dune: Part 2, which heavily focussed on Fremen culture.
