Summary
BioWareis synonymous with romance and has been for some time now.Ever since Baldur’s Gate 2, almost every single game from the studio has let us become more than friends with our companions, making for some of the most memorable moments in RPG history.
Now, BioWare is determined to up the ante in its next game,Dragon Age: The Veilguard. A new report fromGame Informerdescribes The Veilguard as BioWare’s “most romantic game yet”, with the devs going into more detail about how this will be handled in The Veilguard.

BioWare Explains How Romance Will Work In Dragon Age: The Veilguard
For starters, BioWare reaffirms that every companion is pansexual, so there are no restrictions on who you can get with. This is a departure fromDragon Age: Inquisition, which locked some romance paths behind gender and race (Solas only getting with a female elf, Cullen not getting with dwarfs and qunari).
The devs also explain that each companion is handled differently, with game director Corinne Busche saying, “Each romance has a very different flavour.” For example, we’re told that some companions will be upfront with their intentions, whereas others are more “awkward” and inexperienced.

The companions are also described as pansexual rather than playersexual, because their attraction isn’t specific to the player. As we were told previously, companions can hook up with one anotherif we don’t make a move first, which is another route for the writers to explore the characters' sexualities.
This also adds to the “most romantic BioWare game” label, but it isn’t anything we haven’t seen before. If you leave Iron Bull and Dorian alone in Inquisition, they’ll get together. Zevran and Isabela also have some fun in Dragon Age 2 if left to their own devices. And perhaps the most beloved example of this in BioWare games as a whole is Talibrations -the pairing between Tali and Garrus. Of course, that relies on you not getting with one of the two most popular romance options in the series.

As for whether this really is the most romantic BioWare game yet, we’ll have to wait and see for ourselves. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to launch this autumn.
