Summary

In a series first,Dragon Age: The Veilguardwill have a transmog system. That means we’ll be able to dress our Rook and our companions however we like, without sacrificing our stats.

PreviousBioWaregames made us choose between kitting our characters out tactically or making them look nice. But now, The Veilguard will let us have the best of both worlds. It will even let us view what kind of armour we’ll unlock later on duringthe character creator, so we can keep that in mind when we’re deciding what Rook should look like.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Transmog System Explained

This comes fromGame Informer’s latest preview of The Veilguard, going over how armour will be handled in the game. It seems that there’s aheavy focus on aestheticsthis time around, as the “robust” transmog system will let you take the stats from new armour you find, and apply it to what you’re wearing already.

The closest we came to this in previous games wasDragon Age: Inquisition, which let us find armour schematics. We could then use these schematics to craft that armour set, changing some of the colours and materials. This didn’t always produce the best stats though, so it wasn’t the perfect solution.

As for previewing higher-level armour, that’skind ofa new concept. Dragon Age 2 showed us what Hawke would look like in their full Mantle of the Champion armour from the character creator screen, even though we’d only unlock this in the final act of the game. Similarly, The Veilguard’s character creator screen will let us view “aspirational” armour for our class, which we’ll apparently unlock in the “mid-to-late game”.

Aside from that, the preview also confirms that companion customisation will be more limited than what we can do with Rook. We’ll be able to give companions new armour, a weapon, a ring, and an accessory. Rook has all of that but also gets two weapon slots, two rings, a helmet, a belt, and an amulet.
