Summary
Dragon Agefans have just held a huge tournament to determine who the best companion in the whole series is, fromDragon Age: OriginsinInquisition. Looking at all the mainline games and their expansions - and even including temporary companions - the fans have spoken: Alistair is the best one of the bunch.
Very fittingly ending up in the final against Morrigan, Alistairjustabout took the top spot by four votes. Looks like the community has a lot of love for the Dragon Age: Origins lot, as the pair had to fend off some incredibly popular companions from later games to get that far.

Alistair Voted Best Dragon Age Companion
The poll was run by Reddit user BelovedDesperado, and was incredibly thorough. To kick things off, every single character who has ever been a playable companion in the series was split into 14 groups. This meant that even very niche companions like Ser Jory - who exists just to be killed in the Grey Warden Joining - got to go up against main party members. But of course, it was the latter group who came out on top.
Considering Alistair hasn’t been a playable companion since the first game, it’s pretty surprising to see him win the tournament overall. It is, of course, the only correct option though, so well done, everyone. It also makes up for him completely unfairly losing the poll for the best romance, but at least that means Morrigan won something.
In third and fourth places, we have Varric and Fenris respectively. It isn’t incredibly surprising to see the dwarf make it so far, since he has the advantage of being a companion in two separate mainline games. And Fenris is well, Fenris. Who can resist the brooding?
On the whole, it looks like fans still have a lot of love for the older companions. They might be in luck with the next game,Dragon Age: The Veilguard, then, asBioWarehas teased that there will be more returning characters. The devs haven’t revealed who these are yet, butwe have been told that The Veilgaurd will bring back “loved characters”. So… dilfy Alistair Theirin confirmed? A girl can dream.
We’ll find out ourselves soon enough, in any case. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to launch this fall, rumoured to be a late October release.
