Dragon Agehas some ofthe deepest lore in gaming history. So, when you play through all the games, you learn a lot of things. You’re given so much information, in fact, that it’s easy to forget or miss bits of it. For example, it’s understandable if you don’t know what an Eluvian is.
They aren’t central to every narrative in the series, but they do appear a few times throughout the games. They are most significant in Dragon Age: Inquisition, as they play a part in your war with Corypheus. Therefore, it’s worth knowing about them. Here is all the information you need.

What Does An Eluvian Do?
To put it simply, an Eluvian isa magic mirror that functions like a portal. You can use them totravel between different parts of the world.
Well, theoretically, you’re able to use them. In reality, very few of them are still active during the time when the Dragon Age games are set. This is why they aren’t used that much during the games.

The History Behind Eluvians
Eluvians areancient Elven artifactsfrom before humans arrived in Thedas. The Elves used them astheir main form of travel. As one codex entry in Inquisition points out, there are no traces of Elven roads, which is because of the existence of Eluvians. So, the Elves clearly reallyrelied on them.
However, the Elvens’ war with the Tevinter Imperium destroyed the original Elven civilization. Afterward, the humans couldn’t really make use of Eluvians, and many had been destroyed over the years.

What Is The Crossroads?
The Crossroads (as Morrigan calls it) is a special placebeyond both the regular world and the Fadewhere all the Eluvians meet. So, it’s likea nexus of Eluvians.
Interestingly, The Crossroads looks different to Elves than it does to humans. Elves see a bright and beautiful world, while humans just see a grey place.
At the time the games are set, many of the Eluvians in The Crossroads have been deactivated, so the place isn’t as useful as it used to be.
That said, the dimension iscloser to the Fadethan the regular world. This is why Corypheus attempted to go there, as he wanted to break through to the Fade.
