Summary
Dead Risingfans are struggling to think of anything nice to say about Dead Rising 4, with its Christmas spirit andoccasionallyfunny dialogue being some of the few things mentioned.
The last eight years have been very quiet for Dead Rising fansand, even though nearly everyone thought that the series was dead and buried,Capcom has surprised us all by announcing that it’s bringing the first game back with a “deluxe remaster”. Things might be looking up for Frank West fans, but that doesn’t mean that we can all just forget the dark times.
The main reason that Dead Rising looked like it wouldn’t be coming back is, of course, because of the lacklustre release of Dead Rising 4 in 2016. Upon release,Capcom Vancouver’s final Dead Rising game was lampooned by fansand viewed as too much of a departure for the series for its removed features and treatment of Frank, which is something that the community apparently isn’t over.
Ever since the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster was announced a few weeks ago, theDR community over on Reddit has been bursting with positive comments and threads from excited fanssharing their favourite details about the series. One such thread was started by Redditor Legitimate_Battle_89, who challenged the subreddit to “say something that Dead Rising 4 did well”.
As it turns out, though, even a community that has something bright on the horizon doesn’t have much good to say about Dead Rising 4. Even with a positive challenge in mind, the comments are mostly negative and point out all of the things that Dead Rising 4 did wrong, like this brutal one from HarmenSmith which simply reads, “Did a good job at killing the franchise for almost a decade :)”.
“Is it bad I genuinely can’t think of anything?”
In the interest of fairness, the subreddit does have afewnice things to say in Dead Rising 4’s favour, such as the fact that it has a lot of Christmas spirit and makes for a good game to play during the holidays. Some others also say that the map design is surprisingly goodconsidering how rushed development was, and that the music is “more relaxed” than the rest of the series.
Really, though, when one of the most frequent comments that pops up is the fact that the Servbot helmet changes expressions during cutscenes and that Frank’s new outfit is a nice change, it’s pretty clear that Dead Rising fans are still mad about what DR4 did to the series. And you know what? I can’t blame them.
I also really don’t like Dead Rising 4 and think it’s one of the worst sequels in gaming history, but I do like to mess around with it during the holidays.
