Summary
Dead Rising Deluxe Remasterhas a DLC costume that references Frank West’s iconic catchphrase and finally shows what he looked like when he covered wars… y’know.
As great as Chuck Greene and Nick Ramos are,the Dead Rising series' best protagonist is without a doubt the one who started it all - Frank West. There’s a reasonCapcomhas revisited everyone’s favourite photographer multiple times, andthings are about to come full circle with the upcoming release of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, a remake of the original game.
It’s in that first game where Frank West spouts a line thatwould go on to become a catchphrase of sorts - “I’ve covered wars y’know”. That phrase was nonchalantly said when Jessie suggested he can’t take care of himself, but it clicked with fans so much over the years that it’s now a Dead Rising staple.
Of course, that legendary status means that Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster can’t help itself from referencing Frank’s coverage of wars. The official Dead Rising YouTube page has been showcasing some of the DLC outfits included as part of the game’s deluxe edition (that’s Deluxe Deluxe Remaster, then),and the most recent one they’ve shown off is called War Photographer.
As you can see in the reveal video, the War Photographer DLC gives Frank an outfit that is likely what he wore when he was covering wars before the events of Dead Rising. Instead of his black leather jacket and shirt, this costume gives Frank a war-time press vest, a baseball cap, and some sunglasses, which certainly makes him look the part.
The DLC outfit is very reminiscent of the real-life vests that are worn by journalists during wars, although the colour of the badge’s background has been changed from black to blue.
Although Frank’s wartime coverage has been referencedmanytimes in Dead Rising since the first game, we’ve never actually seen anything from it until now. Considering how most of the DLC outfits are Capcom cameos or strange original pieces like the Clown costume, it’s a nice touch from Capcom to get something a bit more canon in there as well.
Fans have alreadybeen quick to call the War Photography outfit the “best original DLC” in the game, so it seems like it’s going to be quite a popular pick when Deluxe Remaster launches on September 19.
