At the new July 1 Capcom showcase, we got an in-depth look at theDead Rising Deluxe Remaster, showing off its refined gameplay, improved survivor AI, and updated graphics. It’s launching later this year on September 19, just over two months away.
This new revamped version comes with some added quality-of-life additions, one of which may be controversial. Firstly, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster adds autosaving, so you don’t lose all of your progress if you forget to stuff Frank in a bathroom every five minutes. Secondly, you can fast-forward time, which should make replays a little less tedious.
If you pre-order now, you’ll get a 2006 Frank West costume, a Chuck Greene outfit lifted right out of Dead Rising 2, and a Willamette Parkview Mall Bee costume. The Digital Deluxe edition comes with 17 total costumes and a further 17 background music tracks that you can play while inside of the shopping mall.
On a random Wednesday afternoon,Capcom announced that it was remaking the first Dead Risingeight years after the series was put to bed with the infamous Dead Rising 4. It was completely unexpected (Lead News Editor George Foster even says he squealed, which fair enough), but it wasn’t all sunshine, guts, and gory rainbows.
The teaser also revealed that Frank West had been recast. TJ Rotolo played him in the first game but was replaced in the much-maligned Dead Rising 4, and fans were hoping that if Capcom was going back to the beginning, they’d bring the OG voice actor back to boot. ButTJ Rotolo says that he wasn’t even asked.
“I’ve always been grateful for every opportunity to bring Frank to life. An actor’s job when called upon is to show up prepared, deliver your best, and when done, move on to the next mission; I simply wasn’t called for this mission,” Rotolo replied to a fan asking why he was recast. “The reasons are the producer’s own.”
