Summary

Dead Rising Deluxe Remasterhasn’t changed the infamously overpowered Mannequin Torso, which can still somehow take zombies out in one hit.

Although most Dead Rising fans were just happy to see the series returnwhen Capcomannounced the Deluxe Remaster of the original game a few months ago, there were a few concerns about what might be tweaked. We’ve already seenplenty of good changes like the staircase being added outside the safe room and time being fast-forwardable, but there’s a lot we didn’t know.

One of the biggest questions that fans have had about Deluxe Remaster(besides whether or not it’s a remake) is whether Capcom would re-balance any of the weapons and change the meta that’s been around since 2006. Well, worry not Dead Rising fans,as my hands-on time with the Deluxe Remaster so farhas proven that most things have stayed as overpowered as before.

If you’ve playedDead Risingbefore, then your mind likely jumps to the Small Chainsaw when thinking of powerful items, but there’s another weapon that’s even more reliable - the Mannequin Torso. In the original game, this unassuming weapon that can be picked up right before you enter Paradise Plazawas somehow able to kill zombies in one hit from a very early level.

That, combined with its high durability that can be increased with books, made the Mannequin Torso one of the most broken weapons in the whole seriesand something that veterans knew to keep a hold of. I’m happy to report that it’s been kept exactly the same in Deluxe Remaster, and still kills zombies in one hit from the moment you pick it up.

A lot of weapons have actually been made even more useful, including the regular Chainsaw, which has been given a big boost to its durability.

It doesn’t seem like Capcom has reduced its durability in the remake, either, so it remains as one of the best tools in the game. It would have been easy for Deluxe Remaster to rebalance what is clearly a mistakenly powerful item, but I’m glad that Capcom stuck to its guns and kept all of the little secrets and strategies from the original release.

And don’t worry, books still have just as much as an effect on the Mannequin Torso and Small Chainsaw as they did in the original.
