Summary

The fantasy worlds ofDungeons & DragonsandMagic: The Gatheringmight not immediately conjure images of comic books and graphic novels, but both have long histories with the comic book world that are set to continue in 2025. More than just continue as Dark Horse Comics and Wizards Of The Coast have announced a new partnership that will bring about new D&D and MTG comics, graphic novels, and art books starting in the summer of 2025.

Dark Horse confirmed the team-up this week, announcing that the comics and novels spun from the partnership will feature new and original stories that take place in D&D and MTG’s worlds. What exactly the first drop will include when it arrives a year from now wasn’t clarified, but hopefully we won’t have long to wait until the first hints and reveals about what it might include start to arrive.

eleven in mtg’s stranger things crossover

Previous work on both D&D and MTG from Dark Horse should be enough to get fans of both excited about what might be to come. The comic book publisher’s relationship with Magic dates back 30 years, publishing MTG’s Gerard’s Quest in the 1990s. Its work with D&D is far more recent as Dark Horse was responsible for the popularStranger Thingscrossover miniseries published in 2021. A follow-up would almost certainly go over well, particularly with the show’s fifth and final season on track to debut on Netflix in 2025.

More Dark Horse MTG Comics Are Coming

Stranger Things has feet in both D&D and MTG’s worlds thanks to its Universes Beyond crossover with the latter which also took place in 2021. One of the first IPs to get a Universes Beyond expansion, the sets take elements from games, shows, and movies and turns them into MTG sets. Since Stranger Things, Jurassic World,Doctor Who, andAssassin’s Creedhave been welcomed into MTG’s growing Universes Beyond collection, withMarvelandFinal Fantasysets still to come.

If you’re unfamiliar with Dark Horse, or you’re fearful of the task that lies ahead when it comes to adapting D&D and MTG into comic books, it has previous, and a lot of it. Dark Horse has previouslyworked with Ubisoft to turn Far Cry into a series of comic books, teamed with Xbox on a Halo encyclopedia, and more recentlypublished a Returnal graphic novel. If you’re still not convinced, Dark Horse created Hellboy, one of the best-known comic book characters not owned by Marvel orDC.
