Summary
At long last,Dark and Darkeris back onSteam. The multiplayer RPG was removed from the storefront early lastyear due to acopyright dispute with the game publisher, Nexon. Now, it seems like developer Ironmace has come to an agreement withValve, putting Dark and Darker back on Steam.
However, despite this being so long in the making, the Steam relaunch hasn’t gone as smoothly as the devs would have been hoping for. Dark and Darker’s user reviews are “mixed” at the time of writing, and have previously fallen as low as “mostly negative”.

Dark And Darker Hit With Negative Steam Reviews Over Its Free-To-Play Release
Taking a look at the negative reviews, most players complain about the state of the free-to-play version of Dark and Darker. This lets you access the game, but you’re limited to basic gear, making it much harder to play.
To access everything that Dark and Darker’s early access has to offer, you have to pay $30 for an upgrade, purchased through a microcurrency. The Steam page does explain this, giving the following description for the free version of Dark and Darker:
The Free-to-Play version allows players to create one character and play Normal mode on all maps, complete quests, and build a stash of loot! Players who enjoy their time with the free version and want to experience everything the game has to offer can upgrade to the full version for 15 Redstone shards
However, some players are still unimpressed, hitting Dark and Darker with negative reviews and describing the practice as “shady”.
This issue has divided the playerbase. Those who stuck with Dark and Darker through thick and thin appear to be quite protective of the game and are hitting back against these new players.
After all, players who have been following Dark and Darker since the beginning had to go through a lot just to play the game after it was removed from Steam. The devslet fans torrent the game shortly after the removal, ensuring that they could keep playing it during the legal drama. At this time, thedevs said they were losing “thousands of dollars a day”, putting the future of the game into question.
This made for a close-knit, passionate community. At the very least, these players can access the game much easier now, even if they’re coming to blows with new fans jumping on for the first time.
