Summary

Zenless Zone Zerohas some incredibly unique character designs, especially in comparison to the other miHoYo games. Given that Zenless Zone Zero is situated as an urban post-apocalyptic game, these designs make sense for the urban environment.

Characters don streetwear clothing and, in some cases (like the Belobog Heavy Industries playable characters) dress pretty similarly to the rest of their group. Others, like the Cunning Hares, have pretty distinct styles from one another. However, it all works to represent their personalities and what their end goals are. Some characters intentionally dress themselves as a bit ditzy, while others aim to paint themselves as the embodiment of the rule of cool.

Zenless Zone Zero, Nicole Demara Character Design Art

10Nicole Demara

Her Appearance Works In Her Favor

Nicole Demara is one of the first playable charactersthat you meet when you boot up Zenless Zone Zero. Her fan appeal is pretty apparent right off the bat, but that isn’t what makes her character design great.

Nicole is clever and powerful, but she utilizes a bit of a ‘ditzy’ front to wiggle her way out of tense situations, and unsurprisingly, it works well. Her clothing choice helps her to keep up that front and keep her opponents continually underestimating her, but little do they know that’s all part of the act.

9Soukaku

The Modern Supernatural

Soukaku is part of the Hollow Special Operations Section 6, which functions as the frontline force for the Hollow Special Operations. Soukaku has such a unique appearance compared to the rest of the playable characters, looking reminiscent of a blue oni.

She even wields a club-like weapon to help compliment her appearance. The biggest difference between her and the traditional oni, really, is that she’s not tall and imposing. Even still, height aside, she has a fun and relatively simple design that grows on you with time.

Zenless Zone Zero, Anton Ivanov Character Design Art.jpg

8Anton Ivanov

A Walking Safety Hazard

Anton Ivanov is a member of Belobog Heavy Industries, and while he shares a similar sense of fashion as his fellow members, his design has a lot of unique elements. What’s really interesting about Anton is that he really leans into a streetwear and ruffian design while still sporting elements of his work in construction.

Sure, having puffy pants and a coat hanging off your shoulder is definitely a safety hazard when it comes to construction, but at least he looks cool. What’s life without a little danger?

Zenless Zone Zero, Alexandrina Sebastaine, Rina, Character Design Art.jpg

7Alexandrina Sebastaine

No, She’s Not An Actual Porcelain Doll

Alexandrina Sebastine, more commonly called Rina, is a member of Victoria Housekeeping. While she has a twist on traditional maid attire, that isn’t what makes Rina’s design so interesting.

What makes Rina interesting is that she has this slightly creepy porcelain doll aesthetic going, and the way that she holds her hands in her official portrait definitely doesn’t help matters. The only thing that might make her design better is if it did lean heavier into those doll-like aspects, with something like mock ball joints.

Zenless Zone Zero, soldier 11 Character Design Art.jpg

6Soldier 11

Genuinely Feasible For Fighting

Soldier 11 is a member of the Obol Squad, a group that is part of the New Erdu Defense Force Obsidian Division. Unlike many other fighters in the game, Soldier 11 actually hasa design that lends itself toward fighting and combat.

Although her design is hardly simple, it’s believable while still carrying those important streetwear aspects throughout. The only thing that seems off or too bulky might be the canisters strapped to her back, but even then, when you factor in her flaming sword, their presence on her person makes a lot of sense.

Zenless Zone Zero, Hoshimi Miyabi Character Design Art.jpg

5Hoshimi Miyabi

Tradition Meets Modernity

Hoshimi Miyabi is a member of the Hollow Special Operations Section 6 and has an exceedingly unique character design compared to many of the other characters in Zenless Zone Zero. Hoshimi, unlike the other playable characters, doesn’t lean into that streetwear fashion really hard.

Instead, Hoshimi takes a lot of traditional clothing and design aspects into her characterization, making her uniquely stand out from many of the other characters. Plus, a lot of her design elements, like the draping sleeves on her jacket, make her look graceful and elegant.

Zenless Zone Zero, Ben Bigger Character Design Art.jpg

4Ben Bigger

That’s Just A Bear

Ben Bigger is a part of Belobog Heavy Industries, and is, very apparently, a giant bear. Aside from walking on two feet and having hands (thumbs and all), Ben hasn’t really been anthropomorphized, which makes you really curious about the different species that currently inhabit New Erdu.

He’s just a bear who works construction and has a pretty good sense of style. There are elements of his design that do seem to be a bit of a safety hazard on a construction site, but that seems to be the status quo for the Belobog Heavy Industries members.

Zenless Zone Zero, Billy Kid Character Design Art.jpg

3Billy Kid

Vash The Stampede, Is That You?

Billy Kid is a really delightful character who is a member of the Cunning Hares. Right off the bat, you might suspect him of being a robot, but it’s really hard to tell and he has some very silly and very human mannerisms, which lends itself more toward cyborg instead of robot.

Regardless, Billy has a wicked sense of style that absolutely embodies the idea of the ‘rule of cool.’ It’s cool, therefore it is. His design might just be a little bit familiar to fans of Trigun though, given that he’s sporting a haircut that’s hilariously similar to Vash the Stampede’s (his guns are pretty similar too…).

Zenless Zone Zero, Von Lycaon Character Design Art.jpg

2Von Lycaon

He’s Just Really Cool, Okay?

Need more really be said on the topic?Von Lycaon is an S-Tier character, who is a devilishly handsome anthropomorphic wolf who has won the hearts and minds of Zenless Zone Zero players. He’s an attendant and member of Victoria Housekeeping, and honestly, who wouldn’t want to hire him?

His design is refined but with a slight bit of edge that makes you realize just how dangerous he might actually be. While he’s not adorned with sharp and dangerous implements, Von Lycaon doesn’t really need them to deal serious damage.

Zenless Zone Zero, Koleda Belobog Character Design Art.jpg

1Koleda Belobog

Don’t Worry, She (Probably) Doesn’t Bite

Koleda Belobog is, unsurprisingly, a member of and the owner of Belobog Heavy Industries. While she doesn’t sport as much construction equipment as her fellow members, she looks positively vicious and perhaps slightly feral.

However, the most striking part of her design really is her hair. It comes off as wild and untamed, mimicking fire in more ways than one. Plus, the puffs at the top of her head almost mimic some kind of animal ears, giving her much more of a presence despite a noticeably smaller frame.
