Summary
It’s safe to say that Firewalk Studios’Concordis off to a rocky start. An unusual marketing campaign, a $40 price point, and entering a saturated market means theGuardians of the Galaxy-likehero shooter is struggling to find its feet.
The game’s poor launch is punctuated by its player numbers. On Steam, the game peaked at 697 total players, and now,it’s struggling even to hit triple digits. As I type this, the game has51 playerson Steam, peaking at 103 in the last 24 hours. Considering you need ten players to fill a lobby, there could be, at most, ten games ongoing at any one time — providing everybody attempts to join a match at the same time.

This has, as you can imagine, caused issues with players joining games, with the matchmaking process taking upwards of eight minutes in many cases.
“I Don’t Know What I Paid $40 For”
Over onReddit, players are sharing their plight with Concord’s matchmaking.
There have been a range of times thrown around in discussion, butseveral players are reportingthat they’re waiting upwards of eight minutes on the central USA server with cross-play turned on — a damning indictment.
It seems as though those waiting eight minutes for a match might actually be the lucky ones, though. One player shared a screenshot of the game with an error stating, “Matchmaking request timed out” after nine minutes, and another playerreportedly waited over an hourfor a match on the Southeast Asia server. One thread on Reddit had over 300 upvotes and 150 comments, with people talking about the game’s matchmaking. As one player pointed out, “More people liked this post than are playing the actual game.”

Concord’s launch couldn’t have been more different to that ofBlack Myth: Wukong, which came out four days prior. Game Science’s Journey to the West-inspired title hit almost 2.5 million concurrent players onSteamaround launch, brokemultiple records on the platform, and quickly soldover ten million copies. Not bad for a single-player game.
