Summary

It’s been no secret thatConcordhas struggled to gain a foothold ever since launch, with a paltry number of players propping up the game’s PC release. Steam’s player numbers hadalready dipped into double digits less than a week after launch, andmatchmaking times for games have been steadily growing day by day.

Concord looks to be destined for failure, and developer Firewalk Studios has now announced that it will be taking the game completely offline in an effort to try and “determine the best path ahead.” Concord director Ryan Ellis announced this news viaan official PlayStation blog post, in which he explains the game “didn’t land the way we’d intended” and will be pulled from the PlayStation Store on September 6.

One off from the concord cinematic reveal trailer.

Of course, that makes Concord unplayable since it’s a purely multiplayer-focused title, so refunds will be offered to anyone that purchased a copy of Concord over the past two weeks. PC players can request a refund via Steam and the Epic Game Store, while PlayStation users will be issued a refund directly. If you purchased a physical copy via a retailer, you’ll need to request your refund according to their personal refund policy. Once refunded, you will no longer have access to the game.

Concord Is Being Taken Offline, All Players Getting Refunds

Unfortunately, Ellis doesn’t mention when the game will be made available for sale again, just that Firewalk will be using the time to “explore options” that will better reach players next time around. It doesn’t sound as though this removal is permanent, and it’s very likely that Firewalk maycave into the pressure and relaunch the game as a free-to-play experience.

That’s just conjecture on my part though. For now, Concord will be gone on September 6, and we don’t know what form it will return in. At the very least, this will be a massive blow to PlayStation’s live service plans. Between the failure of Concord, the struggles with Helldivers 2,the cancelation of The Last of Us Factions, and thepersistent issues at Bungie, PlayStation may want to alter course sooner rather than later.
