Summary

Mortal Kombatco-creator Ed Boon has revealed that he’s still not sure if Arnold Schwarzenegger will voiceConan the BarbarianinMortal Kombat 1.

Even though Mortal Kombat 1 only just finished its first Kombat Pack, last weeksaw the announcement of its second round of DLC characters as part of a story expansion called Khaos Reigns. Included in that lineup are three new guest characters -Ghostface from Scream, the T-100 from Terminator 2, and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s version of Conan the Barbarian.

Shortly after the upcoming guest fighters were revealed, It was confirmed thatboth the T-1000 and Ghostface would be portrayed by their original voice actors, which is a nice touchconsidering all the controversy around Antony Starr not playing Homelander. That just left one big question - would Arnold Schwarzenegger be voicing Conan the Barbarian?

Ed Boon Doesn’t Know If Arnold Schwarzenegger Will Play Conan In MK1

As it turns out, though, that’s a question that even Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon doesn’t know the answer to. As pointed out by Twitter user iScreamFGC,Boon was recently interviewed by ComicBook while at San Diego Comic-Con, which led to a discussion about the guest fighters who will be in Mortal Kombat 1’s second Kombat Pack.

After confirming that Robert Patrick and Roger L. Jackson will portray T-1000 and Ghostface, Boon was asked whether Arnold Schwarzenegger would lend his voice to Conan the Barbarian, something that fans have wondered since he didn’t get involved when The Terminator was added to Mortal Kombat 11.

In response, Boon admitted that he doesn’t know if Schwarzenegger will portray Conan the Barbarian in Mortal Kombat 1, pointing out that NetherRealm “couldn’t get him” for The Terminator. Boon pointed out that the team is always discussing who can be involved with the guest characters, but it seems that Conan was decided before Schwarzenegger could confirm.

I don’t know yet. We couldn’t get him to do Terminator, and that was always a challenge. There’s so many variables, we’re in constant discussions with them about ‘you know can we do this, can we meet them here’ because it’s a good deal of lines you have to record - so, you know, fingers crossed. - Ed Boon

While that doesn’t necessarily rule out Schwarzenegger’s voice appearing in Mortal Kombat 1, it does seem a little unlikely if it still hasn’t been decided after the character was confirmed. At the very least it likely means that Conan isn’t very far along in development and might end up being a later release than the other guest fighters.
