Final Fantasy 14: Dawntrail’s Role Quests will have you traveling all over the world in search of artifacts that have been stolen from their respective villages by members of the Passage of the Unbound, a mysterious criminal organization that has sprung up in Tural.
In the Physical Ranged DPS Role Quest, available to Bards, Machinists, and Dancers, you’re in charge of helping Ceetol Ja, who is tracking down a merchant who stole the Steelhog Vessel, an artifact capable of shielding its wielder from all manner of attacks. Below, we’ll walk you through every step of this quest chain, including strategies for the solo Duty at the end.
How To Unlock Role Quests
To start any of the five Role Quest chains, you’ll first need to unlock them. To do this, you’ll need to complete the Dawntrail Main Scenario up to thelevel 92 quest ‘The Feat of Pots’. Then, the quest’Uncouth Customers’will become available. Accept this quest fromBr’uk Evu in Tuliyollal (X:12.4, Y:14.5).
After completing ‘Uncouth Customers’, you’ll be able to accept Role Quests for any of your available Jobs. The Physical Ranged DPS Role Quest begins with the quest’To Steal a Steelhog', which we’ll take an in-depth look at below.

Raholl Ja - Tuliyollal (X:12.5, Y:15.0)
After accepting this first quest fromRaholl JaatXbalyav Ty’e in Tuliyollal, head toRhalgr’s Reachto search for his granddaughter, Ceetol Ja, who is tracking an imposter merchant who stole their artifact. In Rhalgr’s Reach, speak to the indicated NPCs to gather information. They can be found at(X:11.7, Y:11.7),(X:10.4, Y:11.9), and(X:9.9, Y:10.7).
Next, head toThe Peering Stones AetheryteinThe Fringes, then fly south a short distance to find Ceetol Ja assisting aWaylaid Merchant. After the cutscene,return to Rhalgr’s Reachand speak to Ceetol Ja to complete this quest.

Ceetol Ja - Rhalgr’s Reach (X:11.6, Y:12.2)
Accepting this quest from Ceetol Ja will start a cutscene; after speaking to the Resistance Fighter and Ceetol Ja, travel toPorta Praetoria in The Lochsand speak to the commander stationed there to begin another cutscene.
After the cutscene, travel to theeastand speak to theTimid Trader, then headnorth a short distanceand survey the designated location, which will cause threeCraven Followersto appear. Defeat them, then return to theTimid Traderand speak to him.
Then, head back toPorta Praetoriaand speak toCeetol Jato complete this quest.

Ceetol Ja - The Lochs (X:9.0, Y:21.4)
Start this quest by speaking to Ceetol Ja, then headeast for a short distanceand talk to thePorta Praetoria Commander. Now, teleport toAla Ghiri in The Peaks, then speak to Ceetol Ja to start a cutscene. Now, you’ll need tofollow the bandit without being spotted.
Follow behind the bandit, thenuse the tree to hide when he turns around. Follow him a short distance as he rounds the rock formation, thenstay backas heinspects a shiny rock. Now, he willloop back to the area where he first turned around; use thesame tree as beforeto hide.
Finally,use the trees along the right side of the pathto follow the bandit; he will eventually stop at theGoodblade.
After successfully following the bandit and watching the cutscene that follows, head back intoAla Ghiriand talk to theResistance Fighter. Then, talk to Ceetol Ja to complete this quest.

Ceetol Ja - The Peaks (X:15.2, Y:36.2)
Accept this quest from Ceetol Ja, then head toAla Gannha in The Peaks. Here, find theTimid Trader at (X:24.1, Y: 7.7)and speak to him. After this cutscene, talk to Ceetol Ja, then travel a short distance to thewest, to theLast Forest.
Here, move to the designated location, and aJittering Chapuliwill appear. Defeat it, thenharvest the Oozing Copalfrom the nearby tree. Now,return to Ceetol Jaand deliver the copal, then flysouth towards Rust Rockin search ofKaqool Ja. He can be found at(X:22.5, Y:15.8).
After this cutscene,return to Ala Ghiriand talk to Ceetol Ja to complete this quest.

Start this quest by talking toCeetol Jain her usual spot at AlaGhiri, then teleport to theAla Mhigan Quarter in The Lochs. Here, speak to Ceetol Ja again to get yourdisguise, then head to theeastand speak to theBespectacled Man.
Be sure tostay within the indicated area on your map, or the disguise will wear off. If this happens, you canregain the disguise by talking to Ceetol Ja.
Talk to theBespectacled Managain in front of the entrance to the hideout, then watch the cutscene that follows. Now,head back to Ceetol Jaand speak to her to complete this quest.

Ceetol Ja - The Lochs (X:32.8, Y:33.8)
Accept this quest from Ceetol Ja, then head to theeastand speak to her again. Now, speak to her once again to begin asolo instance Duty.
The fight will begin with you and Kaqool Ja fighting a single Craven Follower that is being protected by the artifact’s shield. It won’t take much damage at all, butkeep attacking it. As you fight it, you’ll be targeted by the other Craven Followers from outside the arena. They will use largeline AoEs; make sure not to hit Kaqool Ja with yours.
You’ll also be periodically bombarded withroom-wide AoE damagethroughout the fight.Ceetol Ja will keep you and Kaqool Ja healthy, so you don’t need to worry about your health.
After the Craven Follower’s health drops to around95 percent, itsbarrier will begin to crack. Then, itsright side will be a weak point; attacking here will inflict much more damage, so orient yourself so that you arelined up with its weak point. After just a few attacks here, the Magitek bandit will go down.
Next, you’ll have tofight off three Cravel Followers at the same time. However, shortly after they take the field, Kaqool Ja will use a big attack that willcrack all three of their barriers, creatingweak points on each of the enemies. Target these weak points as you dodge aseries of circle AoEs, as well as anAoE Markerthat is placed on you.
Once all three are down, you and Kaqool Ja will each be targeted withgroups of Magitek Missiles. These will tether to you andslowly fly towardyou, exploding if they make contact. Put some distance between yourself and the Missiles thentake them down from afarto avoid their explosions.
The Craven Followers will then performcircle AoEs around the arenawhile you are still being targeted by the Missiles. Find thesafe spot between AoEsas youdestroy the Missiles. Then, the Craven Followers will be targetable; defeat them all.
Now, Chalteaufite will finally join the fight, but he will be protected by anUnyielding Mettle barrier. He will then cast a series ofProximity-based AoEsonopposing sides of the arena. Move to thefurthest point away between the two Proximity AoEsto reduce the damage they deal, then move to prepare for the next set in the sequence.
Immediately after, Chalteaufite will castGuns Blazing, dealing damage in alarge cone to his front, followed immediately by aneven wider cone covering the rest of the arena. Stay just outside of the range of the first AoE, thenmove into the newly created safe spotto avoid this attack.
Continue attacking the boss’s barrier. After a few moments, Ceetol Ja will empower Kaqool Ja with words of encouragement. He will then berepeatedly targeted with pairs of Magitek Missiles. Destroy them before they reach Kaqool Ja.
After all the Missiles have been destroyed,Chalteaufite’s barrier will crack, creating aweak point on its right side. Keep attacking the weak point until the barrier breaks, then pour on the damage to Chalteaufite, who will begin castingRaging Artillery, repeatedly damaging both you and Kaqool Ja.
Withstand the attacks until Chalteaufite’s health is depleted, and the Duty will be complete.
After the battle, speak to Ceetol Ja again, thenreturn to Xbalyav Ty’eand talk toRaholl Jato finish this quest. With that, the Physical Ranged DPS Role Quest is complete!
